Job summary

Seequent, a Bentley company, seeks a senior AI scientist to advance generative AI and data science for subsurface modelling. You will build prototypes, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and deliver solutions that meet customer needs.

You will work on ML systems, data handling, and reporting for stakeholders, while staying current with the latest AI literature and helping grow Seequent's AI capabilities across teams.

Qualifications

• PhD/ MSc in ML or related field with strong research track record.
• 7+ years of ML R&D experience including deep learning.
• Experience with large language models, LangChain, and LangGraph.

Responsibilities

• Solve geoscience challenges using ML/AI technologies and LLMs.
• Develop AI/ML algorithms and models using best practices.
• Assess model performance and deliver high-quality prototypes.

• Analyse user challenges to identify ML opportunities.

The Role

Reporting to the Vice President, Seequent Labs, this role contributes generative AI, agentic AI, machine learning, and data science expertise to a multidisciplinary research and prototyping team. The role develops novel applications for subsurface modelling through experimentation and customer engagement.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Solve geoscience challenges using machine learning and AI technologies, including large language models.
• Develop AI and machine learning algorithms and models using accepted best practices.
• Assess model performance and resilience, and deliver quality, user-friendly prototypes aligned with customer needs.
• Integrate algorithms into prototypes and products and demonstrate solutions to customers.
• Acquire data from multiple sources, assess data integrity and quality, and prepare training datasets using effective cleaning strategies.
• Analyse user challenges, workflows, and use cases to identify opportunities for innovative machine learning applications.
• Stay current with relevant scientific literature and emerging developments across AI and machine learning.
• Prepare and present reports and results to peers, internal stakeholders, and users, while sharing knowledge to grow AI capabilities at Seequent.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

• A BSc, MSc, or PhD in machine learning, data science, a quantitative science, mathematics, computer science, or a related specialty.
• 7+ years of research and development experience in machine learning, including deep learning and advanced techniques.
• Experience using large language models, LangChain, and LangGraph.
• Experience with complex orchestration of agentic solutions.
• Experience working with cloud-based data solutions and programming tools such as Python and PyTorch.
• Experience with AI models for imagery, GIS, or 3D data such as point clouds and meshes is preferred.
• Commercial software development experience and experience with modern data plotting libraries such as D3 or Plotly are preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, persistence in problem solving, enthusiasm for continual learning, and the ability to research new topics and learn quickly.
