Job summary

Venterra is seeking a Senior Developer to join the Data Engineering team for a 6-month contract, hybrid work with our corporate office in Richmond Hill, Ontario. The role focuses on data modelling, data quality, and delivering scalable ETL/ELT solutions using Snowflake, AWS, Python and Airflow.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in data engineering, strong SQL skills (Snowflake & SQL Server), and hands-on experience with DBT, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines to support modern cloud-native data

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, a related field or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field.
• Strong expertise in SQL and experience with relational databases, Snowflake and Microsoft SQL Server with an emphasis on analytical and ETL use cases.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Experience with Apache Airflow and DBT for scalable data transformation workflows.
• Knowledge of dimensional modelling techniques and data warehouse schema design.
• Strong experience building cloud-native solutions using AWS Lambda, ECS and EMR and deploying these services using infrastructure as code via Terraform.
• Experience working with Git, CI/CD pipelines for database schema evolution and environment management.
• Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Migrate data models from SQL Server to Snowflake with minimal oversight.
• Implement data quality checks and monitoring to ensure data accuracy.
• Collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to deliver data solutions.
• Develop and maintain documentation for data engineering processes.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes.
• Stay updated on industry trends and recommend improvements.
