Description

ActiveState enables DevOps, InfoSec, and Development teams to improve their security posture while increasing productivity and innovation to deliver secure applications faster.

We are the only solution in the market today that offers Intelligent Remediation, which identifies vulnerabilities to prioritize, assesses the impact of updates causing breaking changes, and facilitates the build and deploy process to get fixes into production quickly and easily.

All from the trusted partner that pioneered and continues to lead enterprise adoption of open source software.

This position is available to remote workers anywhere in North America.

We are seeking experienced candidates with a track record in data engineering. Our goal is to find, understand, and secure all open source code on the planet, and we need someone skilled in finding, ingesting, modeling, and managing this data to help us secure the Internet’s source code.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain data pipelines, create and improve data models, enhance dashboards, and collaborate with teams to promote a data-first culture. Your work will influence our decisions and success at every level.

This role involves both development and operations; strong coding, communication, data management, and modeling skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and maintain scalable data infrastructure using tools like Airflow and Athena, ensuring efficient data ingestion, transformation, and analysis.
  2. Enhance data models and dashboards in tools like Tableau to improve reporting and provide insights across departments.
  3. Implement data quality monitoring systems, annotate ingestion feeds with accuracy metrics, and document data processes.
  4. Collaborate with various teams to uncover insights, answer business questions, and advocate for best data practices.

Our data is our most valuable asset, and your work will be central to our success.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

  • At least five years of experience with ETL processes, data pipelines, and infrastructure management.
  • Proficiency in Python or similar languages like Go, Perl, Ruby, or Java.
  • Experience with Athena, Snowflake, or similar platforms.
  • Skills in visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Google Data Studio.
  • Strong analytical skills working with structured and unstructured data.
  • Excellent communication skills to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Practical data ownership experience, guiding stakeholders in data access and interpretation.

If you have experience with any of the following, please highlight it in your cover letter:

  • Build engineering for languages like Java, Go, Rust
  • Open source projects and culture, dependency management, library maintenance
  • Open-source data processing tools like Kafka, Hadoop, Airflow, PrestoDB
  • Cloud data engineering in AWS or GCP
  • Sales or marketing analytics experience
  • Contributions to open-source communities

Benefits

  • Work for a stable, growing company offering both start-up environment and established revenue stability.
  • Opportunities for growth within the expanding data team.
  • Collaborate with a talented, enthusiastic team.
  • Work on impactful projects that change developers' work lives globally.
  • Competitive salary and bonus plan.
  • Comprehensive benefits and health/wellness credits.

We embrace multiple languages and tools, including Python, Elm, JavaScript, Golang, Bazel, Docker, Kubernetes, Haskell, Airflow, and more. Quality, testing, and documentation are priorities. We contribute to open source and use modern practices like GitHub, pull requests, CI/CD, and agile development, leveraging Slack, Zoom, Jira, and Google Drive for collaboration.
