Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Data Business Analyst to work in person at our headquarters for a one year term in Ottawa, ON.

What you will be doing…

As a Senior Data Business Analyst, you will play a strategic role in shaping how data is leveraged across the organization to support operational effectiveness and informed decision-making. You will collaborate closely with business units and technical teams to analyze business questions, define reporting and analytics needs, and translate them into well-documented data requirements and future-state data models.

Your work will support data migration planning, solution implementation, and the development of scalable reporting environments that enhance data accessibility and accuracy. You will act as a bridge between stakeholders, ensuring that expectations are aligned, risks are mitigated, and new tools and systems are understood and adopted. Through hands-on involvement in requirements gathering, model validation, and change management, you will help drive the organization’s ongoing efforts to modernize its data capabilities and build a strong foundation for analytics and insight-driven growth.

Some of your responsibilities include…
  • Analyze current data structures, identify gaps, and document future-state requirements, including conceptual and logical data models
  • Work with business units to define key metrics, understand reporting needs, and align data solutions with organizational objectives
  • Conduct gap analyses and facilitate validation sessions to ensure requirements and models are accurate, complete, and business-aligned
  • Design and support data migration strategies, including data cleansing, transformation, and mapping from legacy systems to target environments
  • Collaborate with technical teams on tool evaluation, data preparation, testing, and quality assurance throughout implementation
  • Support cross-functional initiatives by coordinating deliverables, monitoring project progress, and helping resolve data-related issues
  • Develop documentation and deliver training sessions for stakeholders on new data processes, reporting platforms, and system transitions
  • Act as a liaison between business and technical teams, ensuring consistent communication, expectation management, and change readiness
  • Engage in post-implementation reviews to evaluate performance, capture lessons learned, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Maintain stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle, integrating feedback and ensuring long-term adoption of data solutions
What’s in it for you?
  • Work for a reputable and nationally known company
  • Work in a challenging and rewarding work environment
  • Generous paid time off, holidays and sick days
  • Employee discount programs, social outings and holiday gatherings
  • You’re a seasoned business analyst with a passion for data transformation and driving meaningful change through insight
  • You can translate complex business problems into structured data models and analytics solutions that support long-term decision-making
  • You are equally comfortable engaging with executives on strategy and diving into technical details with system architects and data engineers
  • You proactively anticipate data challenges, identify root causes, and recommend sustainable solutions—not just quick fixes
  • You thrive in environments with evolving priorities and can confidently adapt your approach while keeping projects on track
  • You build trust quickly and know how to manage expectations while maintaining alignment across cross-functional teams
  • You are methodical, organized, and excel at balancing the big picture with fine-grain detail in your documentation and planning
  • You value knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and helping others adopt new tools and practices
  • You bring structure and clarity to ambiguity, using facilitation techniques, visual modeling, and strong communication to align stakeholder
  • You enjoy delivering structured solutions that improve performance, visibility, and business impact
Your must-haves:
  • A university degree or college diploma in computer science, computer engineering, business analytics, data science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least ten years of experience in business analysis roles with a strong focus on data-driven initiatives
  • Proven experience in gathering business and data requirements, supporting data migration efforts, and designing conceptual and logical data models
  • Proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL) and Microsoft Excel for data analysis and validation
  • Experience with data visualization and reporting tools such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau
  • Solid understanding of data integration practices, including mapping, transformation, and validation
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working within both iterative (Agile) and sequential (Waterfall) project environments
  • Familiarity with business process modeling techniques, such as Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) or Unified Modeling Language (UML)
  • Professional certifications such as the Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), data modeling certifications, or an IBM-certified data architect designation are considered assets

NOTE: Only those candidates that meet the specified requirements will be considered for this position. Candidates that do not meet the requirements may be considered for similar opportunities.
