Job summary

Export Development Canada (EDC) seeks a Lead Counsel to join its Legal Services group, Lending and Investments team. You will advise on corporate lending, project finance, and related transactions within a dynamic, client‑oriented environment.

The role requires strong drafting, negotiation, and risk mitigation skills, and collaboration across teams. The position offers a hybrid work model with relocation assistance and locations at Ottawa headquarters or community hubs in Toronto or Montreal.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Law
• Licensed by a Canadian provincial bar and in good standing
• Minimum of 7 or 10 years of relevant experience
• Strong written and verbal communication, including drafting
• Ability to multitask and manage a high volume of tasks
• Working knowledge of legal services principles and practices

Responsibilities

• Involvement in all aspects of an undertaking from development and structuring of a transaction to negotiation and documenting the arrangement
• Identify issues requiring risk mitigation from a corporate perspective
• Draft legal documentation
• Involvement in asset management matters relating to financing products
• Provide legal advice on statutes and internal policies, including interpretation of Export Development Act and Financial Administration Act
• Retain and supervise outside counsel
• Review outside counsel's documents and advice
• Proactively support the Corporation and legal/business teams through collaboration
