Job description

Reporting to the Plant Controller, the senior Cost Accountant will be a self-starter with a strong work ethic, a “Can Do” attitude, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. This role is responsible for assisting the Plant Accountant in overseeing all technical aspects of the plant’s accounting resources, analysis, and reporting of plant costing information. The position involves accounting for and communicating the financial operating results of the plant, identifying cost savings and risks, providing insights and support to the plant leadership team, and supervising the Cost Accountant.

Salary: $85,000 - $100,000

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting
• Minimum 2 years of supervising experience
• University degree in Business, with a major in accounting
• Professional accounting designation required
• Experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; team player
• Proficient computer skills (MS Excel/Access required; JD Edwards preferred)

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing daily, weekly, and monthly cost reports and plant financial statements, ensuring accuracy and providing feedback for adjustments
• Develop and train staff; ensure performance, identify gaps, and create development plans; maintain systems, processes, and controls
• Develop standard costs by reviewing customer product specifications, making educated assumptions, and supporting new product decisions
• Conduct financial analysis: review forecasts vs. actuals, communicate results, identify trends/discrepancies, and assist in decision-making and ROI calculations for AFE’s
• Support the creation and execution of the annual budget process in collaboration with operational teams
• Prepare monthly plant forecasts, incorporating production usage and costs, and provide estimates on future trends
