Position: Senior Coordinator, Employment & Community Services

The Position:

Reporting to Manager, Employment & Community Services, the Senior Coordinator, Employment & Community Services is responsible for the direct coordination and monitoring of internal and external employment programs and workshops. The Senior Coordinator will support the development and implementation of employer and partnership outreach and engagement.

What You’ll Do:

  • Program Development and Delivery
    • Work collaboratively with the Manager to develop, review, revise, and operationalize quarterly plans.
    • Coordinate with the Research department and the Manager to identify and establish needs of communities and gaps in programs and services, and design and implement programs based on the identified gaps.
    • Implement the Program Impact Framework to measure and collect data related to outcomes, goals, and impact for participants of each program.
    • Collaborate with the Manager to develop and implement an effective outreach strategy to create and enhance relationships with community partners, funders, and employers.
    • Provide ongoing support to external employers, partners, and businesses with inclusive recruitment and hiring, providing workplace accommodations, and supporting all employees.
  • Assess and Evaluate
    • Collaborate with the Research department to collect impact data to ensure that workshops meet all expected targets and outcomes outlined.
    • Research, develop, and implement learning material related to the different skill development and social enterprise program.
    • Strategize and collaborate with the Manager and the Research team to identify program objectives and create innovative program models related to employment readiness.
    • Work with the Employment Counsellor to develop and deliver resources ensuring job seekers are supported and successful in the job development stage.
    • Collaborate with the Administrator and Facilitator, Employment Services to oversee the day-to-day operations of all employment workshops and programs, addressing any issues that may arise with attendees, parents, staff, and booking of rooms.
    • Assist with the management of the customer relationship management software, including ensuring participant profiles, services offered, and program registration information are up to date.
    • Cultivate a person-centered environment through exceptional customer service.
    • Establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with members, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
    • Supervise and support the implementation of in-person programs and services including, but not limited to, on-call support, debriefing, and monitoring facilitation.
  • Engagement and Outreach
    • Establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with members, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
    • Work collaboratively with the Manager to identify and foster strong partnerships and working relationships with stakeholders whose vision and values align with Abilities Centre.
    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive employer database and create strong relationships with Durham Region employers as part of the recruitment strategy for Abilities Centre employment services.
    • Work with prospective employers to educate and understand the social and economic benefits of investing in a work culture that supports inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.
    • Represent Abilities Centre in business community networks and collaboration initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager, Employment & Community Services.

What You Bring:

  • Education and Knowledge
    • Post-secondary education in Social Services, Career Counselling, Community Services, Developmental Services, Adult Education, or related field.
    • 1-3 years’ experience working with individuals with disabilities.
    • Familiarity with job searching techniques, local provincial labour markets, interviewing skills, workplace accommodations, and return-to-work programming.
    • Knowledge of AODA employment requirements, Ontario Human Rights requirements, Employment Standards Act (ESA), and Occupational Health & Safety Act is considered an asset.
    • Understanding of the not-for-profit sector and community services in Durham Region is considered an asset.

  • Administrative Requirements
    • It is required that you have a current, clear criminal record check for the vulnerable sector from the last 6 months.
    • It is required that you have a current, valid First Aid and CPR ‘C’ / AED.
    • CVRP and/or RRP certifications are considered an asset.
    • Crisis Intervention and Prevention certification is considered an asset.
    • You are flexible regarding work schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends.
    • You have access to reliable transportation.
