Opening Statement

The R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home is a Long-Term Care Home serving 137 residents with a staff of 250 across various departments.

Skills & Abilities required :
  • Thorough knowledge of institutional food production, safety, and sanitation.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow complex dietary instructions, menus, and recipes.
  • Sound judgment and understanding of food handling, preparation practices, and recipe adjustments.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Completion of formal and practical training in food preparation from a recognized culinary school.
  • 1-3 years of practical experience; experience in Long Term / Residential Care is an asset.
  • Food Handlers Course certification.
  • Journeyman papers (e.g., red seal) preferred.
  • Ability to supervise Dietary Aides and a 2nd Senior Cook.
  • Accurate estimation of food needs, recipe adaptation for large-scale production, menu planning, and catering.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, prepare and serve meals, and lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is essential.
Hours of Work

Temporary Full Time, Days (6 am - 4 pm), subject to change.

Salary

$22.74 - $23.13 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
