Senior Controls Engineer

We are looking for an experienced senior Controls Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team in Toronto. In this key role, you will be called upon to act as a technical lead on large-scale projects, from the definition of needs to commissioning. Reporting to the regional Automation Manager, you will also act as the deputy manager. You will play a central role in the development of robust and innovative solutions, while providing technical guidance to the project team members.

Your role within the team:

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
  • Oversees the control and specialty systems works throughout the program, including programmable logic controller (PLC), low-voltage (LV), and high-voltage (HV).
  • Leads the controls work through all phases (procurement, design and construction, commissioning/acceptance).
  • Serves as lead project representative on the controls review process for each procurement.
  • Assesses Alternative Technical Concepts proposed by the General Contractor teams during the proposal development phase for each procurement.
  • Coordinates the technical elements of the project execution with the control's goals established for each project.
  • Provides oversight of the controls design and construction for compliance with technical requirements, including design reviews and submittal reviews.
  • Coordinates controls integration among the program projects.
  • Coordinates interfaces between the program and adjacent projects.
  • Reviews and approves the deliverables of designers during the various stages of design to ensure scope compliance and best practice compliance, and provides a Professional Engineer's record documenting each review.
  • Ensures consistency and quality in all controls systems design that will be delivered by the different projects and parties within the program.
  • Monitors the involvement of the designer during the construction process (RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock-up approvals, punch list, etc.).
  • Ensures that design reviews are completed on time and within budget in coordination with all projects.

The ideal candidate:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering/instrumentation engineering Experience with programming of Rockwell PLC and HMI is mandatory.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a controls engineer associated with the design of large airport or infrastructure projects.
  • Registered professional engineer in Ontario.
  • Familiarity with piping and instrument diagram development (P&ID) Familiarity with control systems, including PLC- or DCS-based systems, including automation and programming.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, PIP, NFPA, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
