Job description

BIOVECTRA Inc. is a leading bio-science business in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, focused on contract manufacturing and product development of active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical intermediates, and bioreagents.

BioVectra has an opening for an experienced Senior Controls Instrumentation/Electromechanical Technician reporting to our Maintenance Superintendent.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Senior Controls Instrumentation/Electromechanical Maintenance Technician will be responsible for carrying out instrumentation maintenance duties as assigned by the Manager or Superintendent, Maintenance. This position will install, calibrate, and commission instrument, electrical and mechanical industrial manufacturing equipment as required. The senior tech is also responsible to lead the timely scheduling and execution of the PM calibration program.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Two-week continental rotational shift, Days 7:00 am to 7:00 pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist Automation Specialist with instrumentation & controls issues & projects.
  • Assisting in programing Rockwell PLC to correct system issues.
  • Assisting in troubleshooting and correcting operational/maintenance issues.
  • Participate in the manufacturing equipment calibration maintenance program ensuring minimal plant downtime.
  • Performing and maintaining manufacturing equipment calibration program in a qualified state.
  • Aid in planning and scheduling of calibration and instrument activities.
  • Installing and maintaining instrumentation/electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshooting process control system.
  • Maintaining PLC drawings, motor lists and any other documentation as required for efficient system operation.
  • Assisting in pricing equipment and consumables for capital equipment.
  • Participate in maintenance operations including tracking work orders, maintaining
  • Spare parts inventory, and maintaining calibration and maintenance history of plant equipment.
  • Proficient at utilization of CMMS Systems, BMRAM highly beneficial.
  • Adhering to BioVectra’s Health and Safety Policy.
  • Additional duties assigned, based on business needs and the department supervisor’s request.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Trade Certificate as Electromechanical, Instrumentation, or Electronics technician or 5+ years of direct instrumentation controls or calibration experience in lieu of certificate.
  • CET or industrial electrician would be an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years’ experience in an industrial environment as a Controls and Instrumentation technician, Electromechanical technician or manufacturing equipment Calibration Technician.
  • Experience troubleshooting Allen Bradley and Rockwell PLC systems/Strong PLC programming skills would be an asset.
  • Experience in GMP, pharmaceutical or FDA/Health Canada regulated industries is an asset.

PREFEERED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior mentorship of junior instrument technicians/enjoys training others.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player with minimal supervision.
  • Self-motivated team player.

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to work shift work, overtime and respond to call ins as required.
  • Occasional heavy lifting is required.

Starting hourly rate of $29.00 per hour is based on experience
