Description

Inspirational, innovative and entrepreneurial - this is how we describe our empowered teams. Combine your passion with purpose and join a culture that is thriving in the face of change.

Make an impact within Tariffs & Trade Advisory. Our team of professional trade consultants and analysts offer specialized and scalable advisory services on the tariffication of import-export trade, and on regulatory admissibility of goods into various jurisdictions. As an Analyst, you will be learning new aspects of the business every day, while evaluating trade data and regulatory positions of our clients for review by senior team members before delivery of advice to clients.

The scope of MNP’s Tariffs & Trade Advisory is industry-agnostic, and this will mean a lot of day-to-day variety for the successful applicant. One day you may be dealing with seasonally planned importations of retail merchandise, the next with back-and-forth multiple entries and re-entries of some large geological surveying equipment across the Canada-US border. You may be required to scrutinize every word of an ingredient list for a food product, or to interpret regulatory language involving the galvanizing process for steel. In Tariff & Trade Advisor, the exposure to a broad and diverse segment of the business world is guaranteed.

MNP is proudly Canadian. Providing business strategies and solutions, we are a leading national accounting, tax and business advisory firm in Canada. Entrepreneurial to our core, our talented team members transcend obstacles into opportunities and are successfully transforming mid-market business practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead analysts and consultants towards successful delivery of work products and towards career growth.
  • Support Trade Advisory Managers and Leader in relationship-building with internal and external clients, and execute on the engagement sale cycle.

  • Orchestrate trade chain reviews to ensure a comprehensive baseline for importer profiling and for providing specific and bespoke advice to our clients.
  • Drive duty and tax planning initiatives to reduce import duty and tax costs through planning and review opportunities.
  • Elaborate scope of services to assist clients with improving trade compliance processes (e.g., registrations, permit applications, and documentation filings).
  • Participate in customs audits, internal compliance reviews, and assist in resolving non-compliance issues.
  • Engage with customs authorities, trade associations, and regulatory bodies and gain foresight into the evolving regulatory landscape of import-export trade.
  • Contribute to due diligence efforts for mergers and acquisitions, focusing on identifying customs risks and liabilities.
  • Lean into complex technical projects such as extra-ordinary remission applications and antidumping/countervailing procedures.
  • Support legislative compliance by analyzing and reporting on legislation related to trade compliance, including labour standards and supply chain regulations.
  • Maintain flexibility to travel, as necessary.

Skills and Experience

  • Excellent written and spoken French language proficiency.
  • Excellent written and spoken English language proficiency.
  • University degree in Business Administration, International Trade, Finance or related field preferred. (A post-graduate degree is considered an asset.)
  • 4 or more of experience in a specialized Trade Advisory role: as a trade consultant, trade accountant or trade lawyer.
  • 1 or more years of demonstrable coaching experience, in a Trade Advisory role.
  • Facility to research trade compliance regulations and procedures in the context of primarily Canadian and US customs jurisdictions, and to apply them to the real-world business cases of clients across all industry sectors.
