Job description

Senior Consultant - Human Factors

Location: Global (home office / hybrid)

What we're looking for:

As a Senior Human Factors Specialist, you will provide expert knowledge to support client projects and the strategic development of the Human Factors team.

The position is ideally based in Southampton UK, Bristol UK, Halifax Canada, Miami USA, or Dubai UAE, but we are open to hybrid or remote work from other locations.

You will:

  1. Lead and support projects within the Human Factors Team, ensuring high-quality delivery within budget and contractual commitments.
  2. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring the delivery of Human Factors expertise to high standards.
  3. Support the Team Lead in achieving departmental strategic goals.
  4. Build and maintain long-term client relationships, using feedback to improve services and processes.
  5. Identify and develop new business opportunities, including presenting and promoting services.
  6. Develop technical proposals with estimates of costs and timelines.
  7. Ensure activities comply with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  8. Engage in continuous professional development and industry awareness activities.
  9. Mentor and share knowledge with team members.
  10. Participate in global projects, including international travel and vessel operations.
  11. Potentially take on a people management role, depending on interest and competence.

You will need:

  1. A degree in Human Factors Engineering, Psychology, or a related field, or marine/nautical qualifications with sea-going experience.
  2. At least 5 years of experience as a Human Factors specialist, with expertise in areas such as ergonomic assessments, HRA, human-centered design, control room design, usability, safety assessments, workload assessments, etc.
  3. Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., British Psychological Society, Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors).
  4. Experience with Human Factors techniques, standards, and regulations.
  5. Experience conducting user research, interviews, testing, and data analysis.
  6. Customer-focused, proactive, and motivated to meet deadlines and update clients regularly.
  7. Excellent communication, influencing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  8. Proficiency in English, with strong report writing skills.
  9. Ability to travel internationally to client sites, including vessels.
  10. Good physical fitness in line with ENG 1 medical standards.
  11. Desirable: Experience in Marine, Oil & Gas, Energy sectors, project management, workshop facilitation, security clearance, CAD, workload, and fatigue management.
