As a fisheries biologist, you will be a member of a large Biodiversity and Ecosystems team in Canada, working within a multidisciplinary community of toxicologists, geochemists, hydrologists, aquatic scientists, and wildlife biologists (among other disciplines), and will become a member of an extensive team of global environmental and social experts. This is an opportunity to contribute to aquatic environmental assessments and permitting for large-scale capital projects.

Your responsibilities:

  • Design and implement fish and fish habitat field programs in freshwater environments throughout Canada.
  • Contribute to the development and monitoring of fisheries offsetting and compensation programs.
  • Compile, manage, analyze and interpret fish habitat, community, and biology data, and contribute to database management.
  • Draft technical reports, or sections of reports, including baseline reports, environmental monitoring reports, permitting applications and compliance reports, offsetting plans, and impact assessments.
  • Actively contribute to ERM’s international aquatics and fisheries technical communities.
  • Mentor junior staff and field technicians.

Who you are:

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Fisheries Biology or similar discipline.
  • Registered Professional Biologist (or equivalent), or eligible to apply
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills, including preparation of technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, and permit applications.
  • 5+ years of experience, including advanced field experience in fish and fish habitat assessment, freshwater fish sampling, water quality sampling, and aquatic biology (experience with hydrology, instream flow assessment, hydroacoustic/bathymetric assessment, fish habitat offsetting are also assets).
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health & Safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Federal, Provincial and Territorial regulations and guidelines as they apply to the mining and oil & gas sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with the ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, work independently with minimal supervision, and travel.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.
  • Pleasure Craft Operators license.
  • Electrofishing training, Intermediate First Aid, Swiftwater Rescue Training are assets.
  • Positive outlook, collaborative, self-starter who takes initiative, and is inspired by the success of ERM as a global company.

For the Senior Consultan, Fisheries Biologist position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $69,867 – $83,047 (CAD). An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above.This jobmay be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are NOT bonus eligible).
