Job description

We are currently seeking a Senior Construction Safety Officer to join our team based in Toronto, Ontario. The Senior Construction Safety Officer will be responsible for supporting Health and Safety compliance activities by working closely with Project Managers and Construction Managers throughout all stages of assigned projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on the Metrolinx Ontario Line Project.

Job Responsibilities :

1. Perform construction assurance and compliance activities on assigned projects.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of performance metrics, including leading and lagging indicators, to evaluate and improve safety outcomes.
3. Develop and deliver safety-related training tailored to project-specific needs and workforce risk profiles.
4. Conduct formal inspections and audits to ensure compliance with relevant OHS legislation, standards, and contract requirements.
5. Monitor on-site construction work conducted by contractors for compliance, hazard identification, and risk mitigation.
6. Review site activities to support worker and public safety, infrastructure, and operations.
7. Coordinate with the Integrated Project Team and stakeholders to provide consistent safety support.
8. Work with the Project Delivery Team and Contractors to review and analyze construction activities for safety and efficiency.
9. Participate in incident investigations and follow-up actions.
10. Manage daily activities of Construction Safety Officers, providing guidance and technical oversight.
11. Assist the Safety Director, Safety Manager, and Project team with additional tasks as needed.

Qualifications :

1. 8-10 years of experience in construction safety.
2. Experience managing or mentoring safety personnel, including providing technical guidance.
3. Preferred experience in tunnel and shaft construction safety.
4. Experience with railway safety infrastructure and heavy civil projects.
5. Strong knowledge of Ontario OHSA Act and Regulations, especially in construction.
6. Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
7. Ability to manage multiple tasks within deadlines.
8. Excellent stakeholder relationship skills.
9. NCSO or similar designation preferred.
