About The Role

This opportunity is based in St. Thomas, Ontario, and requires in-person attendance.

The Senior Construction Specialist / Engineer will lead and manage critical construction engineering efforts, focusing on static architecture and infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include providing technical guidance, overseeing construction operations, and ensuring project compliance with standards, safety regulations, and timelines. The role involves collaboration with internal teams, contractors, stakeholders, mentoring junior engineers, and maintaining high quality standards. A deep understanding of construction methodologies and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment are essential.

This position is within the Operations department and may require up to 90 days per year of travel for training and workshops domestically or internationally during the first year.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead engineering efforts for large-scale construction projects focusing on static architecture and infrastructure.
  2. Supervise and coordinate construction activities, ensuring alignment with specifications, standards, and safety protocols.
  3. Provide technical expertise during planning, design, and execution phases.
  4. Review construction drawings, documents, and specifications for compliance.
  5. Oversee site inspections and quality assessments to monitor progress and safety.
  6. Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to meet project milestones on time and within budget.
  7. Manage project reports, including progress updates and compliance documentation.
  8. Assist in resource planning and procurement to ensure timely delivery and cost efficiency.
  9. Identify and mitigate project risks, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  10. Mentor junior engineers and promote professional development.
  11. Ensure environmental sustainability practices are followed throughout construction.
  12. Engage in project cost control to keep activities within financial constraints.
What You Bring To The Team
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field, or equivalent.
  • P.Eng. or P.E. preferred.
  • At least 8 years of experience in construction, preferably with industrial facilities.
  • Experience managing large projects and technical responsibilities in civil engineering, including earthwork, foundations, and buried pipes.
  • Experience with large, complex project teams and design-build projects.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, codes, and safety standards.
  • Proficiency with CAD, BIM, and construction management tools.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong team orientation and social skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and safety.
