Zurich Canada is currently seeking a Senior Compliance Officer to join our Compliance team.

Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, Canada, you will assist first-line management in promoting an ethics-based culture, delivering practical solutions, guidance, and training. You will drive compliance analytics, enable innovation, and advise on new projects, tools, and systems across various lines of business. You will help identify and manage compliance risks through risk assessments and reviews, and implement policies, processes, and controls related to the Compliance Risk Universe.

What you will do
  1. Build, maintain, and develop expertise across compliance risk areas, including:
  • Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption
  • Conflicts of Interest and External Mandates
  • Zurich Ethics Line & Reporting of Concerns
  • Monitoring & Assurance Governance and Framework
  • Corporate Governance
  • Policy Management Framework
  • Evaluate business activities to assess potential compliance risks.
  • Ensure impartiality and that people/organizations follow laws, regulations, or policies fairly.
  • Contribute to awareness campaigns reminding employees of policies and reporting procedures.
  • Advise and support the first line regarding compliance policies.
  • Conduct assurance reviews, identify gaps, and define actions collaboratively.
  • Share results, agree on actions with management, and follow up on improvements.
  • Maintain a GRC log for reporting to regulatory authorities.
  • Provide input for the annual compliance risk assessment and validate results with management and governance.
  • Review and align compliance strategy with business, legal requirements, and trends.
  • Promote an ethical culture through training and metrics.
  • Assess new laws and trends for applicability and implementation.
  • Advise on policies, controls, and risk mitigation within the compliance universe.
  • Support regulatory relationship management and uphold the organization’s public image.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to ensure understanding and support of compliance activities.
  • What you bring to the table

    Job Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Law + 6+ years in Compliance, Internal Audit, Legal, or Risk
    • OR High School Diploma + 8+ years in relevant areas
    • OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice + Associate Degree + 6+ years
    • Experience with audit processes and procedures
    • Knowledge of compliance laws and regulations

    Preferred:

    • 5+ years in compliance, audit, consulting, or regulatory initiatives in finance or related field
    • Experience with complaints handling
    • Post-secondary degree in related discipline
    • Knowledge of the insurance industry, financial services, and compliance operations, especially Commercial Lines Insurance
    • Bilingual in English and French (asset)
    • Knowledge of legal requirements and procedures
    • Strong communication skills
    • Management, agile working, and data analytics skills (beneficial)
