Senior Compliance Auditor, Production - Hybrid
The Opportunity
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is currently recruiting for a Senior Compliance Auditor, Production to join the Regulatory Compliance (RC) branch. This role is part of the Production & Emissions Compliance team, providing technical guidance and support in the measurement and production reporting area. Lead and provide audit representation on enterprise projects, provincial initiatives, branch compliance initiatives, enforcement, regulatory development and technical issues. Facilitate and coordinate audit program development, target selection, the integration of new audit programs with existing programs and supporting prioritization, analysis and reporting of audit programs. Share experience and knowledge, develop and improve internal audit processes, and contribute to operational training and mentoring of staff.
This role offers immersion into a multi-disciplinary team and will provide the successful candidate with exposure to varied specialties, including methane emissions and benzene.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Lead, coordinate, and independently conduct complex audits on operations/activities within the AER’s jurisdiction. Prepare audit plans and sample technologies. Collect and analyze information from varied and numerous sources to determine compliance, resolve problems and make recommendations to improve regulatory compliance. Prepare audit letters, notice of noncompliance letters, audit reports, perform follow-up actions and execute compliance assurance processes as required. Ensure all audit file documentation is compiled and saved appropriately.
- Support and provide representation on enterprise projects, provincial initiatives, assignments related to audits, inspections, enforcement, regulatory, and technical issues.
- Contribute to operational planning, including risk-based decision making aligned with the regulatory decision framework, reporting on team activities, trends, emerging issues, and identifying priorities within the program. Set and develop standards for audit processes and documentation within the scope of expertise and act as a subject matter expert, providing support to internal stakeholders, hearing and ADR sessions as required.
- Follow and support all planning and reporting activities in alignment with AER policies, procedures, the Compliance Assurance Program, and Operational plans.
- Coordinate, support, and facilitate effective team discussions within the area of expertise, to share/resolve technical audit, process and clarify policy matters. Assist and/or train and mentor other staff as needed.
- Manage communications and interactions with industry regarding areas of concern. Lead meetings and deliver technical presentations to industry and government agencies. Participate in synergy groups as required.
What we’re looking for in you:
- Degree in engineering, environmental sciences, or other related education.
- 8-12 years experience in regulatory reviews, audit process implementation, compliance assurance or other related experience.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, strong presentation skills, attention to detail and technical accuracy.
- Excellent technical knowledge of regulatory requirements in multiple operational areas.
- Ability to think strategically, identify regulatory challenges and performance issues, and develop solutions for resolving the issues.
- Ability to make informed decisions that align with business goals.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize competing duties.
- Ability to collaborate with a diverse group of skill sets.
