About Us

The Public Service Commission is the central human resource agency for the Government of Saskatchewan. The Commission provides leadership and policy direction to all ministries to enable a high-performing and innovative professional public service. The Commission works with ministries to ensure effective workforce management by supporting the delivery of foundational services such as staffing and classification, and strategic support, including labour relations and organizational development.

Total Rewards is one of five Human Resource Centres of Excellence within the Government of Saskatchewan, where a team of subject matter experts develop and implements compensation and benefits systems and policies for the public service.

The Opportunity

The Public Service Commission is seeking two experienced, detail-oriented, and collaborative compensation experts to join a team of professionals as a Senior Compensation Consultant in the Total Rewards branch. Of the two positions, one is permanent, and the other is a one-year term. This posting may also be used to staff future permanent or non-permanent Compensation Consultant (MCP06) or Senior Compensation Consultant (MCP08) vacancies.

As a Senior Compensation Consultant, you will:

  • Facilitate and support effective and credible compensation systems for the Government of Saskatchewan.
  • Collaborate with HR business partners to provide guidance and recommendations on compensation programs, policies, and tools.
  • Participate in and lead the annual merit pay process and other compensation projects.
  • Gather and analyze salary data to evaluate market competitiveness and recommend solutions.
  • Develop, interpret and administer Total Reward’s policies, procedures, and salary administration practices.
  • Identify and implement solutions that meet client needs through collaboration and consultation with internal subject matter experts.
  • Align yourself with the Government of Saskatchewan’s Commitment to Excellence and hold yourself accountable for fulfilling commitments to your team.
  • Seek opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement and provide input to help achieve success at the team and organizational levels.

Ideal Candidate

To be successful in the role, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Deep expertise in compensation, including compensation strategy and design, market research and analysis, compensation service delivery, and merit pay.
  • Knowledge and experience in researching and analyzing trends and issues, identifying and developing options and solutions and making policy and program recommendations related to pay and benefit trends.
  • Experience with interpreting and applying policies, collective bargaining agreements, legislation, and other contractual agreements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the proven ability to collaborate, influence, and build relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Superior organizational skills and the ability to adapt to competing and changing priorities.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical and critical thinking skills (dealing with numbers, complex calculations, formulas and costing);
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., V-lookup, pivot tables, formulas, formatting, etc.)

Typically, the knowledge for this position would be gained through the successful completion of

post-secondary education in business administration, combined with 5 years of experience in compensation. An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.

Candidates who don’t meet the full qualifications of a Senior Compensation Consultant are encouraged to apply for consideration as a Compensation Consultant. This competition may also be used to fill future permanent and term Compensation Consultant and Senior Compensation Consultant opportunities within the branch.

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
