Job description

Senior Communications Officer and Official Languages Coordinator

The mandate of the Department of Justice is to administer justice, including policing, community justice, victims services, and corrections in the Northwest Territories. This mandate will be carried out in a manner that respects community and indigenous values and encourages communities to assume increasing responsibilities.

Job Information

The Senior Communications Officer and Official Languages Coordinator designs, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the implementation of a full range of official language communications and services developed by the Department of Justice. This is in accordance with the Government of Northwest Territories Strategic Plan on French Language Communications and Services, the Department's Operational Plan for French, and the Official Languages Act. The Advisor also provides advice and support related to the other official languages of the NWT. These duties are carried out following guidelines and policies, the NWT Official Languages Act, and the Canada-NWT Cooperation Agreement for French and Aboriginal Languages of the NWT.

Typically, the qualifications include a degree in a specialized communications discipline such as journalism, public/media relations, or a similar field, along with three (3) years of relevant experience.

Equivalencies include a relevant diploma with four (4) years of experience in communications. All other equivalencies will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
