About The Role

Ecclesiastical Insurance Canada, part of Benefact Group, is seeking a Senior Commercial Underwriter to join our Western Region team in Calgary.

This role involves managing complex risks related to property and casualty products. You will collaborate with various stakeholders, handle underwriting submissions, oversee a portfolio of accounts, and build strong relationships with customers and brokers. Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze risks, assess underwriting submissions, and make sound decisions.
  • Develop, negotiate, and manage a portfolio of accounts aligned with Ecclesiastical's strategic goals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, brokers, and internal teams, ensuring excellent service.
  • Plan, prioritize, and manage tasks to meet objectives and SLAs.
  • Operate within Ecclesiastical guidelines and escalate risks as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • University degree and advanced insurance certifications like CIP or equivalent.
  • 6-8 years of progressive underwriting experience, especially in property and casualty.
  • Proficiency with underwriting tools, systems, and data analysis.
  • Attention to detail, excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Negotiation skills, adaptability, and ability to handle multiple files.
  • Understanding of underwriting guidelines, policy wording, pricing tools, and regional insurance market.
  • Ability to mentor junior underwriters and maintain professional development.
  • High ethical standards and discretion in handling sensitive information.
