Job description

Under minimal supervision, the Senior Commercial Underwriter in insurance within our new business team plays a key role in assessing the acceptability of complex, high-premium policies. Additionally, they are committed to providing expert, value-added service to current and potential policyholders, thereby strengthening our position in the market.

Job Responsibilities

1. Perform risk analysis using technology and external data sources for quoting, negotiating, and authorizing risk acceptance.
2. Arrange reinsurance or subscribing companies where appropriate.
3. Determine eligibility for policy renewals based on guidelines and retention goals.
4. Maintain accurate records of decisions and ensure completeness of policy data.
5. Communicate decisions and respond promptly and professionally to requests.
6. Act as a subject matter expert on insurance policies, processes, regulations, and audits.
7. Mentor and train less experienced team members.
8. Participate in periodic work reviews for quality assurance.
9. Support the development and implementation of business changes.
10. Ensure efficient handling of work assignments, including calls.
11. Influence team members positively and provide short-term direction towards team goals.
12. Foster positive relationships with internal and external parties, including networking at industry events.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Five years of Property and Casualty industry experience.
2. Post-secondary education or related business experience.
3. Completion or active pursuit of a Property and Casualty Industry Designation.
4. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
5. Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to review information carefully and comprehensively.
6. Strong decision-making skills with the ability to justify choices.
7. Excellent communication skills to present information convincingly.
8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and implement solutions.
9. Ability to adapt to change and perform effectively under pressure.
10. Capacity to multi-task and monitor progress to meet deadlines.
