A leading insurance company based in Vancouver is seeking a Senior Commercial Underwriter to manage a portfolio of medium-sized commercial insurance accounts. This role involves qualifying new business, building relationships with brokers, and ensuring exceptional service. Candidates should have over five years of commercial underwriting experience and a passion for customer service excellence.

Aviva Commercial Insurance Branch located in downtown Vancouver, has an opportunity for a Senior or Intermediate Commercial Lines Underwriter (Property and Casualty).
You will service a portfolio of commercial insurance business requiring a proven underwriting ability and a dedication to customer service perfection. You will be involved in the underwriting of medium-sized commercial property and casualty accounts, with premiums up to $100,000 as well an opportunity to showcase your commercial underwriting knowledge. We are interested in speaking with insightful business minded underwriters. You will champion excellent relationships through daily management of an assigned broker portfolio.
Accountabilities:
Qualify and underwrite new business through understanding needs and risk characteristics of the customer, ensuring benefit from both top-line and profitability perspective.
Develop and maintain relationships cross-functionally and with external stakeholders, to deliver exceptional broker and customer service.
Build knowledge of all Information Systems/Programs within Commercial Insurance.
Maintain the quality and profitability of the portfolio and refer all risks outside established authority level to Specialist.
Phone communication oriented and broker visitation oriented to develop strong relations ensuring Aviva is a go to market for broker’s commercial needs.
You will work with brokers to negotiate pricing for new business opportunities and retention policies to insure a profitable book of business within an established underwriting authority.
Participate in Quality Reviews and audits as required.
You will have the opportunity to utilize loss control and risk management practices is part of our standard methodology within the underwriting process, and you'll be passionate about standard methodology.
Required Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:
Work reciprocally with other members of the office
5 + years’ experience in commercial Insurance underwriting.
CIP designation or a willingness to complete the designation.
Ability to listen to broker and customer needs to meet them effectively and efficiently.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Commercial systems, and other related systems.
Validated sales acumen, marketing, communication, and negotiation skills.
Ability to be self-motivated and proactively pursue potential business opportunities with brokers and customers.
Good working knowledge of underwriting, pricing and products in different segments, example- contractors, retail, manufacturing
Ability to work with internal business partners to deliver a great broker and customer experience.

The salary band for this position ranges from $46,500 to $103,200. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
