Job description

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by

Are you actively looking for a new opportunity? Or just checking the market? Well… you might just be in the right place!

We’re looking for a Senior Collections Specialist to join our Finance team in Montreal. You will report to the Collections Manager. As a Senior Collections Specialist, you will hold a customer-facing role, primarily responsible for contacting customers with overdue account balances. If you love talking to customers, are familiar with accounting practices, and can remain friendly, calm, and authoritative, then this is the job for you!

What you’ll be doing:
  1. Lead and manage complex or high-value customer accounts with persistent delinquency, ensuring timely resolution and minimal write-offs.
  2. Analyze aging reports and trends to proactively address risk accounts, recommend strategic actions, and collaborate with Sales, Billing, and Sales Operations.
  3. Develop and implement improvements to existing collection workflows and tools to enhance team efficiency and recovery rates.
  4. Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance and Sales on customer disputes, contract obligations, and resolution of high-risk accounts.
  5. Support audits and ensure compliance with internal controls, privacy laws, and ethical collections practices.
  6. Oversee or support the reconciliation of complex accounts and assist with escalated cash application discrepancies.
  7. Proceed with and oversee daily cash applications to ensure timely and accurate allocation of customer payments.
  8. Identify accounts that have failed the internal dunning process or are subject to bankruptcy, and refer them to third-party collection agencies as appropriate.
  9. Review and authorize referrals to collection agencies, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  10. Negotiate and resolve customer disputes and payment delays.
  11. Own monthly reporting on portfolio performance, collection KPIs, and risk exposure for leadership review.
  12. Serve as the escalation point for junior collectors, providing guidance and mentorship on collection strategy, payment negotiations, and customer communication.
What you need to bring:

We’re a team of 10 people located in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.

We're looking for a candidate with experience in:

  • At least 2 years of experience in a collection function.
  • Strong communication skills in both English and French, including verbal and written proficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Experience serving as an escalation point.
  • Knowledge of the finance industry (asset class preferred).

We know that people are more than what’s on their CV. If you’re unsure you have the right profile, don’t hesitate to apply!
