We’re looking for a Senior Collections Specialist to join our Finance team in Montreal. You will be reporting to the Collections Manager. As a Senior Collections Specialist, you will hold a customer-facing role and will primarily be responsible for contacting our customers with overdue account balances. If you love talking to customers, are familiar with accounting practices and can remain friendly, calm and authoritative, then this is the job for you!

What you’ll be doing:

Collections & Risk Management
  • Lead and manage a portfolio of complex or high-value delinquent customer accounts to minimize write-offs and improve recovery rates.
  • Analyze aging reports, identify risk patterns, and develop strategic actions in collaboration with Sales, Billing, and Sales Operations.
  • Act as the main point of contact for escalated collection cases
  • Identify accounts that have failed internal dunning processes or are undergoing bankruptcy and manage third-party collection referrals.
  • Respond to and resolve customer billing inquiries with clarity, accuracy, and professionalism, explaining invoicing structures, payment terms, and billing schedules.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Sales, Billing, Finance) to ensure correct application of contractual terms, particularly around customized billing setups (example : quarterly billing for monthly contracts).
  • Oversee daily cash application processes to ensure accurate and timely allocation of customer payments.
  • Investigate and resolve complex account discrepancies, including misapplied payments, short pays, and unapplied cash.
  • Investigate discrepancies and confirm that billed amounts align with total contract value, explaining differences when needed.
  • Interpret contract structures and translate them into accurate invoicing and payment schedules.
  • Review and reconcile customer accounts to ensure proper allocation of payments and adjustments.

What you need to bring:

We're looking for a candidate who has experience with the following:

  • 2+ years of collections experience
  • Solid understanding of accounts receivable and basic accounting principles
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to explain billing adjustments, proration, and invoicing discrepancies in a clear and professional manner
  • Experience serving as an escalation point
  • Experience working with billing platforms or ERP systems (exemple : NetSuite, Salesforce, Chargify, etc.) is a strong asset
