Overview

This role is part of the Modern App Platform Engineering team and will create platform components and services for enterprise‑wide use.

Responsibilities

• Develop, manage, and maintain cloud platforms, services, and components to enable safe enterprise‑wide use of common cloud functionality.
• Provide Level 3 support.
• Take technical ownership/leadership of enterprise cloud product(s) or large product components, including the design, software, and processes required for ongoing operations.
• Design, implement, and refactor code.
• Participate in design discussions focused on scalability, design, and implementation best practices.
• Ensure software, programs, and applications are developed or configured to meet high availability, integrity, and reliability requirements.
• Work with lead engineers and architects on designing solutions and breaking down, scoping, and estimating tasks.
• Participate in planning and retrospective sessions, attending stand‑ups, etc.
• Build and operate highly available and scalable software and infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• Enthusiasm for cloud transformation and cloud platform/component/service development.
• Strong development experience, delivery history, and breadth of language experience (e.g., Java, Python).
• Full understanding of the software development life cycle and related technologies.
• Sufficient domain expertise in cloud platform features and capabilities.
• Ability to solve ambiguous and novel problems that require the effort of several engineers.
• Expertise in either a modern technology stack, building platforms, or Scotiabank’s legacy systems.
• Full‑stack experience in product development.
• Experience in technical leadership of small technical teams delivering production solutions.
• Strong communication skills, both written and spoken, especially to technical audiences.
• Experience delivering enterprise systems and collaborating across multiple teams.
• Knowledge of software design patterns, infrastructure architecture, DevOps, and security considerations.
• Awareness of design for scalable, enterprise‑level software systems (both code and infrastructure).
• Experience working with relational databases.
• Understanding of the software release process (environments, binary repositories, CI/CD).
• Attention to detail and high standards for quality.
• Desire to learn, grow yourself and your team.
• Passion for driving teams toward high performance and a deep pride in quality craftsmanship that delights users.
• Experience writing and maintaining related documentation.
• Experience investigating, analyzing, and resolving system problems.
• Experience with Kubernetes, containerised applications, and Terraform.
• Experience within Canadian financial institutions.
• Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree in computer science or an engineering/mathematics discipline.
