Job summary

Dexter Talent Ltd is seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer to join their North American operations. You will operate a large AWS environment, manage EKS and cloud infrastructure, and drive automation and reliability improvements across production systems.

You will work with a collaborative team, handle incidents, and contribute to CI/CD efforts. Hybrid work with Calgary office days is offered.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience with AWS in production environments.
• Solid Kubernetes experience, ideally EKS.
• Operational background in Cloud/DevOps or SRE.
• Comfort with supporting live production systems and troubleshooting.
• Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
• Monitoring/observability with Grafana or Prometheus.
• Experience with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins or GitHub).
• Experience with SQL, Oracle or PostgreSQL is a plus.
• A problem-solving, ownership minded attitude.

Responsibilities

• Support a large-scale AWS production environment across North America.

• Improve automation across operational processes and infrastructure.
• Work with Terraform and IaC principles.

• Participate in a shared on-call rota (about 1 primary week every 30-45 days).

We're working with a growing software business that's looking to add a Cloud Engineer to its North American operations team. This is an operationally focused role supporting a large AWS environment, helping to keep critical platforms running whilst continuously improving how things are done.

You'll join an experienced Cloud and DevOps team, reporting into an excellent technical leader who values collaboration, ownership and people who are happy to roll their sleeves up and solve problems.

This isn't a project-only role or a position for someone coming straight from software development. It's ideal for someone who enjoys operating production environments, responding to incidents, improving reliability and finding smarter ways to automate everyday processes.

What you'll be doing

• Supporting a large-scale AWS production environment across North America
• Managing Kubernetes (EKS) environments and cloud infrastructure
• Investigating and resolving production incidents and service issues
• Improving automation across operational processes and infrastructure
• Working with Infrastructure as Code principles using Terraform
• Supporting observability and monitoring platforms including Grafana and Prometheus
• Helping drive improvements around cloud optimisation, platform reliability and operational efficiency
• Contributing to ongoing platform initiatives including CI/CD improvements and cloud migrations
• Taking part in a shared on-call rota (approximately one primary week every 30-45 days)

What they're looking for

• Strong commercial experience working within AWS environments
• Solid Kubernetes experience, ideally EKS
• Previous experience working in a Cloud, DevOps or SRE focused operational environment
• Comfortable supporting live production systems and troubleshooting infrastructure issues
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform
• A good understanding of monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus or similar
• Exposure to CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins or GitHub
• Experience working with SQL, Oracle or PostgreSQL environments would be beneficial
• Someone who enjoys automating manual processes and continually improving how things are done

Technical ability is important, but attitude matters just as much.

They're looking for someone who takes ownership, stays calm under pressure and enjoys solving problems. Someone who investigates issues rather than waiting for answers, works collaboratively with their teammates and isn't afraid to suggest better ways of doing things.
