Job summary

Mercor, in collaboration with a leading AI lab, is seeking a Senior Multiline Claims Examiner in Toronto to design realistic claims scenarios and evaluate AI outputs against established claims standards. You will craft coverage analyses, investigation requests, and settlement recommendations while ensuring quality communications with insureds.

The role involves grading AI-generated responses and providing actionable feedback to improve model behavior, with onboarding and calibration sessions

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional P&C claims handling, adjusting, or examining experience.
• Independent handling of claims in areas such as property, auto physical damage, bodily injury, general liability, commercial casualty, catastrophe, or specialty claims.
• Understanding of the claim lifecycle from intake to closure.
• Ability to read and apply policy language to facts and know when escalation is required.
• Excellent written analysis, balanced judgment, and high attention to detail.
• Distinguish ordinary adjudication from complex coverage, litigation, regulatory, or actuarial work.

• Create work products like claim action plans, coverage analyses, investigation requests, evaluation summaries, settlement recommendations, and insured communications.
• Write gold-standard reference responses at experienced claims-professional quality.
• Grade AI-generated responses against structured rubrics for factual accuracy, policy application, claim-handling judgment, and procedural completeness.
• Provide written feedback to improve model behavior for the research team.
• Participate in onboarding office hours and calibration sessions.

About the Role

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI lab to train frontier models on high-quality insurance reasoning data. We're hiring Senior Multiline Claims Examiners to design realistic claim-handling scenarios, evaluate model outputs against established claims standards, and help shape how the next generation of AI reasons about coverage, investigation, evaluation, settlement, and claim resolution.

We welcome carrier examiners, desk adjusters, field adjusters, TPA professionals, and independent adjusters with experience handling property, auto, casualty, or specialty P&C claims.

What You'll Do

• Design realistic claims scenarios involving first notice of loss, coverage verification, investigation, documentation, reserving, damage evaluation, negotiation, settlement, subrogation, salvage, and closure
• Create work products such as claim action plans, coverage analyses, investigation requests, evaluation summaries, settlement recommendations, and insured communications
• Write "golden" reference responses at experienced claims-professional quality
• Grade AI-generated responses against structured rubrics for factual accuracy, policy application, claim-handling judgment, and procedural completeness
• Identify premature conclusions, missing investigative steps, unsupported valuations, improper communications, and failures to distinguish covered damage from excluded or unrelated loss
• Provide written feedback the research team uses to improve model behavior
• Participate in onboarding office hours and calibration sessions

You’re a Good Fit If You

• Have 2+ years of professional P&C claims handling, adjusting, or examining experience
• Have independently handled claims in at least one area, such as property, auto physical damage, bodily injury, general liability, commercial casualty, catastrophe, or specialty claims
• Understand the claim lifecycle from intake and investigation through evaluation, resolution, recovery, and closure
• Can read and apply policy language to claim facts while recognizing when escalation is required
• Demonstrate excellent written analysis, balanced judgment, and high attention to detail
• Can distinguish ordinary claim adjudication from complex coverage, litigation, regulatory, and actuarial work

Bonus Qualifications

• AIC, CPCU, SCLA, or comparable insurance designation
• Multiline or multistate claims experience
• Catastrophe, represented bodily injury, litigation, subrogation, SIU, or large-loss exposure
• Experience supervising independent adjusters, experts, vendors, or defense counsel
• Active or previously held adjuster license
