Reference Number : Intermediate and Senior Civils Estimator

Location : Mississauga and North York, Ontario

Our client is a leading Heavy Civils & Infrastructure company currently recruiting for an Intermediate and Senior Civils Estimator in Mississauga and North York.

This position appeals to a highly competitive, results-oriented individual eager to advance their career in construction by playing a key role in developing our company's project management and estimating team. The successful candidate will work on new and existing business contacts throughout the region, handling private and municipal projects.

Reporting to the President, this role involves estimating commercial, industrial, and civil construction projects ranging from $X to $Y million. Types of projects include Heavy Civils, Sanitary and Sewer works, Structures, Bridges, and Dam Water Treatment Plants.

The Senior Estimator must be accustomed to working in a fast-paced office environment and will be responsible for the timely and accurate completion of tenders from initiation through to closing. Since our client does not self-perform work, experience in selling out works to subcontractors is essential. The candidate should be a bid/tender closing expert, managing multiple tenders weekly.

Requirements include a post-secondary degree/diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, along with several years of experience in the construction industry within a general contracting environment. Experience in concrete, earthworks, and structural steel is required. Gold Seal Certification in Estimating and/or Project Management is preferred.

Role Summary :

  • Collaborate with other civil estimators and the entire estimating team (including mechanical and electrical estimators)
  • Develop and prepare cost codes for operations
  • Complete take-offs for all trades (quantities and costs), including labor, materials, and equipment (excluding mechanical and electrical disciplines)
  • Analyze subcontractor scope and select the most complete and competitive bid
  • Complete tender forms and ensure timely tender submission on closing day
  • Understand project workflows, including construction schedules, tie-ins, and shutdowns
  • Meet tender deadlines and perform effectively under tight schedules on bid day
  • Manage multiple tenders simultaneously
  • Negotiate best pricing with suppliers and subcontractors within the company's ethical guidelines
  • Review drawings and specifications to extract the complete scope of work

Position Requirements :

  • Relevant post-secondary diploma/degree and/or trade certification with extensive estimating experience in heavy civil earthworks, concrete, structures, bridges, dam water treatment plants, sanitary, and sewer works
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Experience with Primavera P6 is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Creative problem-solving abilities
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Effective negotiation and diplomacy skills
