Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking a Senior/Lead Civil Engineering Technologist for our Calgary, Alberta office to lead civil design projects in the hydro, renewables, and power sectors. You will guide junior technologists, coordinate surveys, and ensure compliance with engineering standards while delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions.

The role requires a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology with 10+ years of experience, CET designation preferred, and proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institution.
• 10+ years of experience in civil design within the renewables, hydro, power, energy, or industrial sectors.
• CET designation is preferred.
• Extensive experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, and other design software.
• Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Excellent communication skills, including technical writing and client interactions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the preparation of civil designs, drawings, and specifications for hydro, renewables, substations, transmission lines, and industrial structures.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate technologists.
• Prepare and review technical documents, reports, and calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance with engineering standards and client requirements.
• Develop, approve, and coordinate project work schedules to ensure objectives related to cost, quality, and time are met.
• Establish and maintain strong working relationships with clients, project teams, and internal stakeholders.
• Conduct site visits, inspections, and assessments to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Review vendor drawings and specifications to ensure consistency with project requirements.
• Assist in preparing proposals, estimates, and responding to client RFPs.
• Apply knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards (CSA, AISC, IEEE, IEC, ASTM) in project execution.
• Ensure that designs incorporate sustainable and innovative engineering solutions.
• Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
• Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
• Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
• Additional duties as required.

Position Summary:

Essential Job Functions:

As a Senior/Lead Civil Engineering Technologist, you will play a key role in supporting and leading civil design projects for hydro, substations, renewable energy infrastructure, and industrial facilities. Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit or stand as required and remain in a stationary position for at least 50% of the workday.
• Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle, manipulate, or feel objects, including continuous operation of a computer and other standard office equipment such as calculators, copiers, and printers.
• The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting.
• Periodic travel may be required and could involve limited exposure to extreme temperatures. Travel may include air travel, during which the employee may be required to remain seated for extended periods.

The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $150,000.
