Overview

Senior Civil Engineer - Water & Wastewater (Conveyance) at WSP in Canada. The Opportunity : Join our team as a Senior Civil Engineer and take the lead in shaping the future of water and wastewater conveyance. In this pivotal role, you'll oversee major projects, mentor rising talent, and drive business growth—your expertise in linear infrastructure will empower our national conveyance team to deliver ground-breaking, sustainable solutions that set new industry standards. This position will work on a wide range of water infrastructure projects, both locally and nationwide.

What you can expect to do
  • Lead water and wastewater conveyance projects, overseeing all design phases and ensuring compliance with client needs and regulatory standards.
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, technically robust solutions, from concept through construction.
  • Drive project success by overseeing design deliverables, budgets, schedules, and quality assurance processes.
  • Provide expert guidance during construction, including resolving technical queries and reviewing shop drawings.
  • Champion risk management strategies, focusing on constructability and site-specific challenges.
  • Mentor and inspire junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
  • Build strong client relationships and support business growth through proposal development and innovative service offerings.
  • Provide construction support services, including design clarifications, shop drawing reviews, responses to RFIs, site visits, and meetings.
  • Take technical and time management responsibilities of tasks and delegate effectively to junior staff.
What you’ll bring to WSP
  • Accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (Master’s degree an asset), with P.Eng. licensure in Ontario.
  • 10–15 years of progressive experience leading design and delivery of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Expertise in conceptual and detailed design of linear infrastructure, including gravity sewers, watermains, pumping stations, and forcemains.
  • Strong command of construction methods, sequencing, risk management, and mitigation strategies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Ontario and Canadian municipal / provincial design standards, regulatory requirements, and approval processes.
  • Proven ability to manage projects from planning through to construction completion—delivering quality results on time and within budget.
  • Recognized for technical leadership, collaboration, and commitment to innovation in infrastructure solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership in guiding multidisciplinary teams and managing stakeholder expectations to ensure project success.
  • Exceptional mentoring abilities—skilled at inspiring, coaching, and fostering the growth of engineering professionals.
  • Outstanding communicator with a proven track record in technical report writing, delivering client presentations, and facilitating clear collaboration across project teams.
  • Strategic business development mindset, adept at preparing winning proposals and pursuing innovative opportunities for growth.
