Job summary

Aplin is seeking an experienced Civil Project Manager to join our Toronto-area operations, leading complex infrastructure projects from pre-construction through closeout. Ideal candidates bring 10+ years in heavy civil construction with a track record of delivering on schedule, budget and safety targets.

You will provide technical leadership, manage contracts, coordinate design-build activities, and build strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors to ensure project success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive heavy civil construction experience.
  • Experience as a Project Manager or Senior Superintendent delivering major civil infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of contracts, specifications, scheduling and budgeting.
  • Proven ability to lead high-performing project teams.
  • Knowledge of construction safety legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and project management software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of project delivery from planning through closeout.
  • Provide contract administration and technical leadership on major civil infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure safety, schedule, budget and quality targets are met.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, forecasts and resources.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, contracts and payments.
  • Build relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and stakeholders.
  • Prepare regular project reporting on safety, cost, schedule and performance.
  • Lead project closeout activities and turnover documentation.

Our client is a leading Canadian construction company with an outstanding reputation for delivering complex civil infrastructure projects across Ontario. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Civil Project Manager to join their Toronto-area operations.

This opportunity is ideal for a highly experienced Project Manager or Superintendent ready to lead challenging infrastructure projects from pre-construction through completion while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, budget and schedule performance.

Ideal Project Experience
  • Transit hubs and transportation facilities
  • Earthworks, Underground Utilities experience
  • Rail corridor projects, including excavation and grading /rail lines
  • Retaining walls, shoring/ Support of Excavation (SOE)
  • Bridges, underpasses and grade separations
  • Pedestrian bridges
  • Bus loops and parking infrastructure
  • Transit stations
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all aspects of project delivery from planning through closeout.
  • Provide overall contract administration and technical leadership on major civil infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and to the required quality standards.
  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations.
  • Develop, monitor and manage project schedules, budgets, forecasts and resources.
  • Identify project risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, contract negotiations, purchase orders and progress payments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and project stakeholders.
  • Review contract documents and ensure contractual obligations are effectively managed throughout the project lifecycle.
    Prepare regular project reporting covering safety, cost, schedule and overall project performance.
  • Lead project closeout activities, including turnover documentation and final completion.
For Design-Build Projects
  • Coordinate and monitor design development, constructability reviews and design deliverables.
  • Support design management, quality assurance and compliance throughout the design process.
  • Communicate proactively with clients and stakeholders to manage expectations and resolve issues effectively.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive heavy civil construction experience.
  • Demonstrated career stability with progressive advancement and meaningful tenure with previous employers is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience as a Project Manager or Senior Superintendent delivering major civil infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex, multi-million-dollar transportation or heavy civil projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, specifications, methods, scheduling, budgeting and project controls.
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing project teams.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction safety legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and industry-standard project management and scheduling software.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive salary of $120,000 – $142,000, commensurate with experience.
