Job Description

Sedgman is currently seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our team in Montreal. The Senior Civil Engineer will lead civil projects related to mining, energy and/or infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will perform civil engineering and design activities, including site preparation, grading, drainage, roads, paving, etc., for mining and heavy industrial projects. They will have opportunities to mentor and coach a young, enthusiastic team, contributing to the growth of the team and Sedgman in the Americas.

What does this role involve?

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead civil project teams in feasibility and detailed design engineering projects from concept to completion, including bulk earthworks, site drainage, pond and tailing berm design, mine and plant roads, and earth structures.
2. Prepare plans, layouts, designs, and supporting calculations.
3. Support drafting and estimating staff with necessary information for detailed drawings, tools, materials lists, and cost estimates.
4. Ensure project KPIs are met by monitoring design effectiveness, scheduling, resource requirements, and compliance with project plans and client expectations.
5. Review plans, designs, materials, and equipment for conformity with specifications.
6. Oversee QA/QC of design calculations and contract documents.
7. Collaborate with project managers and multi-disciplinary design teams.
8. Assist in preparing technical details for queries, quotations, contract documentation, and failure analysis.
9. Liaise with engineers, suppliers, clients, and consultants regarding design, installation, construction, and commissioning.
10. Contribute to project reporting on progress, resources, budgets, priorities, and team needs.

What are we looking for?

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized program.
2. Registration with OIQ (P. Engineer in Quebec); registration in other regions is an asset.
3. Minimum 10 years of relevant experience leading civil projects in mining, energy, or heavy industry.
4. Experience in designing site grading, drainage, storm and sanitary sewers, and roads.
5. Proficiency with civil design software and understanding of the design process.
6. Experience with bulk earthworks, containment berms, storm drainage, and earth structures.
7. Ability to manage time, priorities, and activities effectively.
8. Experience mentoring junior engineers.
9. Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
10. Eligibility to work in Canada without sponsorship.
