The Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic leader to join as the senior member of the ship’s management team. Serving as an Engineering Manager and Watchkeeping Engineering Officer, you will supervise and coordinate all engineering activities to ensure the safe, secure, efficient, and timely transportation of passengers and vehicles.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Superintendent, your responsibilities include:

  1. Ensuring high standards of safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the ship’s propulsion and power systems.
  2. Establishing safe practices for maneuvering the vessel.
  3. Assigning licensed and unlicensed engine room crew to machinery to optimize vessel performance.
  4. Monitoring, maintaining, and documenting the condition of the ship’s structure and machinery, ensuring compliance with relevant rules and regulations through planned maintenance, schedules, and routines.
  5. Planning and implementing emergency repairs, alterations, and assisting in dry dock refit programs.
  6. Developing and maintaining long-term maintenance and emergency contingency plans.
  7. Liaising with regulatory bodies for ship inspections and ensuring crew compliance with standards.
  8. Leading, training, and conducting drills with the crew for emergencies such as fire, safety, and evacuation.
  9. Ensuring environmental pollution is minimized during machinery operations.
  10. Reviewing financial reports to verify entries and control costs.
  11. Ensuring compliance with safety practices and procedures.
  12. Initiating and overseeing employee training programs.
  13. Promoting the development and progression of engine room staff.
  14. Maintaining security equipment in line with the security plan.
  15. Reporting and addressing equipment failures and incidents.
  16. Assessing vessel damage and seaworthiness after incidents.
  17. Promoting safety awareness and best practices among engineering staff.
  18. Developing leadership in emergency and operational procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

Second Class Motor Certificate required; First Class Motor Certificate preferred. Experience as a Chief Engineer or Watch Engineer. Supervisory experience and proficiency in MS Office applications are essential. Completion of supervisory and business courses is an asset. Travel is required.

Additional Information

The target salary range is $140,400 – $175,600 per annum, with starting salary based on experience and internal considerations. Exceptional candidates may receive a higher starting salary.
