Overview

Element has a current opening for a Senior Chemist (Trace Metals) to join our growing team in Mississauga, ON.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform routine chemical and physical analysis on samples using ICP-MS, ICP-OES, or AAS according to in-house, customer, or compendial methods.
  2. Maintain and troubleshoot Trace Metals instruments, ensuring optimal performance.
  3. Lead method development, validation, and transfer testing for analytical techniques.
  4. Prepare analytical reports, validation protocols, and related documentation.
  5. Maintain documentation including lab notebooks and equipment logs in accordance with SOPs.
  6. Investigate atypical or OOS results and deviations.
  7. Potentially assume a team lead role, delegating tasks to junior colleagues.
  8. Coordinate with managers and colleagues, communicating work status and roadblocks.
  9. Train and mentor junior staff through coaching and delegation.
  10. Handle complex routine and non-routine issues independently.
  11. Apply core skills across various processes and product testing cycles.
  12. Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in multiple laboratory areas.

Skills / Qualifications

  1. Minimum 8 years relevant experience with a BS, 5 years with a Master’s, or 4 years with a PhD.
  2. Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  3. Strong attention to detail and good interpersonal skills.
  4. Effective communication skills, capable of articulating work impact and providing clear instructions.
  5. Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  6. Proficient in technical report writing and review.
  7. Basic understanding of cost control, 5S, and SQDC principles.
  8. Strong critical thinking skills.
