Title : Senior CGL Underwriter
Location : Toronto (Hybrid or In-office)
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Act as a Senior Underwriter managing the workflow of a developing Commercial General Liability (CGL) practice with a focus on complex cases, primarily responsible for CGL lines and compatible business needs.
- Adhere to underwriting contracts, demonstrating good judgment to build a profitable CGL book.
- Follow internal standards of quality, applying coherent logic and decision-making in risk selection and pricing for new and renewal business.
- Manage the renewal process of a CGL book, communicating effectively with brokers for smooth renewals.
- Collaborate as a team member, balancing resources with customer service targets and mentoring junior staff.
- Handle invoicing and billing as required, contributing to team efforts.
- Manage endorsements, certificates, inspections, and related work with some support.
- Support business strategies to achieve profit and growth through sound underwriting and responsible marketing.
- Contribute to strategic plans to increase market presence, maintain the right business mix, and meet growth and profit goals.
- Participate in product line and process improvements, product development, and marketing initiatives.
- Develop and maintain key broker relationships for positive outcomes.
- Serve as a resource for junior underwriters and those new to CGL underwriting.
- Communicate openly with other offices to ensure consistent customer response and resource efficiency.
Required Knowledge and Skills :
- Post-secondary Degree or Diploma.
- CIP designation or working towards it.
- 8+ years of CGL underwriting experience.
- Knowledge of CGL risks, classifications, and coverage options; ability to interpret data and make informed risk decisions.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent problem-solving, reasoning, and decision-making skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines; strong planning and organizational skills.
- Proven team player with an energetic personality.
