Job summary

Compass Group Canada is seeking a Senior Category Development Manager, Dairy Category, to lead the strategic development of dairy category plans and overall purchasing initiatives in a fast-paced environment. You will drive data-driven decisions, collaborate cross-functionally, and advance supplier relationships to optimize value and performance.

The role emphasizes growth opportunities, continuous improvement, and aligning with business objectives.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in purchasing and supply chain management.
• Post-secondary education diploma/degree in purchasing or related studies.
• Excellent strategic planning skills and strong analytical abilities.
• Proven negotiation and interpersonal skills complemented with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Computer proficiency, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point etc.) and database management.

Responsibilities

• Participate in purchasing business plan; own strategic category plans and ensure efficient management of other functions.
• Stay current on industry trends to develop strategic initiatives for growth and profitability.
• Participate in strategic sourcing within category and support the 7-Step Process.
• Provide daily and long-term project management for category activities.
• Identify growth opportunities and create plans to support strategic category assignments.
• Communicate with procurement and distribution to align on marketplace issues.
• Implement supplier and product rationalization programs.
• Use cost models and portfolio analysis to manage categories and suppliers.
• Lead quarterly business performance reviews with stakeholders and suppliers.
• Conduct tactical negotiations with suppliers.
• Lead project management and implementation of new suppliers’ programs.
• Special projects or other duties as assigned.

Job description

The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, eligible employees may be entitled to other elements of total compensation, which may include group benefits, employer RRSP contributions, and discretionary bonus or incentive programs, where applicable to the role. We are committed to offering competitive compensation and comply with all applicable pay transparency legislation. Further details regarding our total rewards program will be shared by the Talent Acquisition team during the hiring process. Canadian work experience is not a requirement for this role. • Participate in overall purchasing business plan and own the strategic development of category plans within your area of responsibility and ensure efficient management of other functions, delivering overall business objectives and enhance business performance.
• Remain current on industry trends that could lead to development of new strategic initiatives in providing sustainable growth, sales, and profitability.
• Participate in strategic sourcing efforts within category as requested/required, exhibit shared leadership focus in support of the 7-Step Process, suggest on-going continuous improvements, ensure teams work in strong collaboration; encourage cross-functional synergies in driving maximum value to the organization.
• Provide both day-to-day and long-term project management of assigned category activities/initiatives for Foodbuy.
• Identify product and category growth opportunities and create plans to support execution for strategic and major category assignments.
• Communicate with procurement and distribution to ensure a robust understanding of the marketplace, issues and opportunities so they can continuously update the clients.
• Implement supplier and product rationalization program.
• Use formal analysis tools such as cost models and portfolio analysis to manage categories and suppliers.
• Lead and conduct quarterly business performance reviews with representatives from key business stakeholders and suppliers.
• Conduct tactical negotiations with suppliers.
• Lead project management and implementation of new suppliers’ programs.
• Special projects or other duties as assigned.
