Job description

We are currently looking for a positive, enthusiastic, and driven Senior Casualty Claims Specialist in our Global Corporate & Specialty department. The successful candidate will have a multifaceted personality and thrive within a strong culture. They will seek out challenges to continually improve their knowledge and skills while providing outstanding service to the end customer.

What you’ll do

  1. Support GCS Value Proposition daily and with every interaction by providing excellent customer and stakeholder communication on claim matters.
  2. Provide superior customer service to our clients and stakeholders.
  3. Investigate, evaluate, and settle Auto BI, Commercial General Liability Casualty, and possibly some PD liability / E&O / US claims with claimants or their representatives.
  4. Handle a varied pending, including files in pre-litigation and litigation, as well as out-of-province claims.
  5. Work with defence counsel on litigation files to develop and implement strategies for timely and cost-effective resolution.
  6. Communicate effectively with key clients and brokers on all claim-related issues and provide assistance as required.
  7. Interpret and confirm insurance coverage using background knowledge of relevant case law and understanding of policy wordings.
  8. Ensure file reserves are set timely and accurately, following company protocols.
  9. Maintain control over expenses through proactive handling techniques.
  10. Review and analyze external reports to ensure proper disposition of claims, manage costs, and provide exceptional customer service.
  11. Provide instructions to vendors and TPA’s to adjust claims.
  12. Ensure vendors and TPA’s adhere to company policies and procedures.
  13. Document and summarize file activity clearly.
  14. Adhere to Aviva’s claim procedures and guidelines.
  15. Work collaboratively with other departments within Aviva.

What you’ll bring

  1. CIP or FCIP Industry designation preferred.
  2. University Degree or College Diploma or equivalent Casualty technical work experience.
  3. 7+ years of claims experience.
  4. 5+ years of experience in Commercial Claims with a strong knowledge of Casualty/Personal Lines.
  5. Exposure to US claims, E&O, PD liability claims is an asset.
  6. Experience in client interaction.
  7. Technical competence in Commercial insurance.
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, ClaimCenter.
  10. Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  11. Ability to provide in-depth advice to customers and stakeholders.
  12. Understanding of customer priorities.
  13. Critical thinking and stakeholder coordination skills.
  14. Self-motivated and hardworking problem-solver.
