Job summary

NTPC – Northwest Territories Power Corporation is seeking a Senior Project Analyst to provide financial oversight, analysis, and reporting for its capital program. You will monitor expenditures, ensure proper capitalization, and support five-year planning with regular performance reports.

You will lead capital project financials, develop funding analyses, and build business cases, while partnering with project managers and senior leaders to drive value and sustain governance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, economics, or related field.
  • CPA designation, MBA, or other relevant professional qualification is considered an asset.
  • At least three years of progressively responsible experience in financial analysis, project accounting, capital planning, or related discipline.
  • Experience supporting capital projects, project accounting, capital budgeting, business case development, or project controls.
  • Knowledge of capital planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial information and provide recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical, operational, and financial stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the financial lead on major capital projects, partnering with Project Managers.
  • Analyze project performance against approved budgets and forecasts.
  • Develop and maintain project funding analyses, funding requests, reconciliations, and related reporting requirements.
  • Conduct financial reviews and audits of capital projects to validate costs, investigate discrepancies, ensure compliance with corporate policies, and support management decision-making.
  • Prepare post-project financial analyses, lessons learned reviews, and performance reports to evaluate capital project outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop, review, and challenge business cases for proposed capital investments by evaluating project costs, benefits, risks, assumptions, funding requirements, and expected returns.
  • Prepare and deliver capital program performance reporting, metrics, dashboards, and presentations for Senior Leadership, the Capital Governance Committee, and the Board of Directors.
  • Prepare audit support documentation, working papers, and financial analyses for interim and year-end audits, including explanations of significant variances and unusual balances.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to project managers and other stakeholders on capital budgeting, project accounting, cost control, financial reporting, and capital governance processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job description

The Senior Project Analyst provides financial oversight, analysis, and reporting for the Corporation's capital program. Working closely with Project Managers, the position monitors project expenditures, ensures costs are appropriately charged and capitalized, analyzes project performance against approved budgets and forecasts, supports project funding requirements, and provides financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

The role also supports the evaluation of proposed capital investments through business case analysis, expenditure justification reviews, and financial modeling. In partnership with the Manager, Capital Portfolio Planning and Control, Capital Financial Analyst, Manager, Capital Program, and Project Managers, the Senior Project Analyst contributes to the development, monitoring, forecasting, and reporting of the annual capital program and five-year capital plan.

  • Successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check prior to commencing work.

This is a bargaining unit position. Salary for this position ranges from $57.85/hr - $70.28/hr. plus location allowance of approximately $3,823 per annum. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, which includes Health and Dental Benefits, Disability Insurance, Life Insurance, paid Sick Days and a Defined Pension Plan. This position is located in Hay River, NT. Relocation assistance may be provided.
