Job summary

Kassen Recruitment seeks a Senior Business Data Analyst to strengthen data governance and analytics within an investment-focused organization in Toronto. You will help ensure data quality, reliability, and timely access for business users across investment, finance, risk, and technology teams.

You will design monitoring, automate checks, and lead cross-functional projects while collaborating with external partners and internal stakeholders to drive data-driven investment decisions.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in investment systems administration, implementation, or a related field.
  • Post-secondary education in Finance or related discipline.
  • Professional investment or financial services coursework or designation is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of investment management concepts and financial instruments.
  • Experience with data quality processes and relational data concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain data governance standards, processes, and controls for investment data.
  • Design and enhance data quality monitoring and reporting to identify and resolve issues.
  • Build and automate data quality checks and strengthen validation and controls.
  • Perform detailed business and data analysis and drive resolution with internal teams and partners.
  • Support investment system releases and data recovery activities for timely access to information.
  • Understand investment workflows and troubleshoot data availability and accuracy.
  • Oversee security master, reference, pricing, and market data processes across systems.
  • Support front-office and investment applications, including onboarding and troubleshooting data/workflow issues.
  • Manage user access and data services within investment applications.
  • Document requirements, data flows, and specs for new controls and enhancements.
  • Participate in system development initiatives covering requirements, design, data conversion, testing, and implementation.
  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional projects with stakeholder management.
  • Support data vendor relationships, procurement, due diligence, and performance evaluations.
  • Contribute to master data management initiatives across sources.
  • Act as subject matter expert on major investment data projects and mentor colleagues.

Job description

We're recruiting a Senior Business Data Analyst for a high-impact opportunity within an investment-focused organization. This role is ideal for an experienced data and investment systems professional who enjoys solving complex data challenges, strengthening data quality, and ensuring critical information is accurate, complete, and available when business users need it.Working closely with investment, finance, risk, technology, and external partners, you'll help establish strong data governance practices, improve controls, and support the systems and processes that underpin investment decision-making.

Compensation & Work Arrangement
  • Salary: $120,000-$150,000 CAD + bonus
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid, with 3-4 days per week in the Toronto office
  • Hours: 7:00 AM-3:30 PM
What You'll Do
  • Develop and maintain data governance standards, processes, and controls to support the integrity and reliability of investment data.
  • Design and enhance data quality monitoring and reporting to identify, investigate, and resolve data issues.
  • Build and automate data quality checks while strengthening validation, exception handling, and control processes.
  • Perform detailed business and data analysis to investigate complex issues and work with internal teams and external partners to drive resolution.
  • Support investment system releases, data recovery activities, and other initiatives that ensure timely and reliable access to critical information.
  • Develop a strong understanding of investment workflows and troubleshoot data availability, accuracy, and completeness issues.
  • Oversee security master, reference, pricing, and market data processes across multiple systems and data sources.
  • Support front-office and investment applications, including onboarding, configuration, and troubleshooting of data and workflow issues.
  • Manage user access and data services within investment applications and coordinate related administrative activities.
  • Document business requirements, processes, data flows, and specifications for new controls and system enhancements.
  • Participate in system development initiatives covering requirements gathering, solution design, data conversion, testing, and implementation.
  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional projects, managing stakeholder expectations, dependencies, and delivery timelines.
  • Support data vendor relationships, including procurement, due diligence, forecasting, invoice management, and performance evaluation.
  • Contribute to master data management initiatives and the integration of data from multiple sources.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and business analyst on major projects involving investment data and systems.
  • Mentor and support colleagues while contributing to ongoing production support and evolving data requirements.
What You'll Bring
  • 7+ years of experience in investment systems administration, implementation, investment data management, or a related field.
  • Post-secondary education in Finance or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Professional investment or financial services coursework or designation is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of investment management concepts and financial instruments, including public and private market investments and derivatives.
  • Strong understanding of capital markets and front-, middle-, and back-office processes.
  • Experience working across complex, multi-system investment environments and understanding how different stakeholders use and rely on financial data.
  • Strong analytical, consulting, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on identifying root causes and implementing lasting solutions.
  • Experience with investment platforms, financial data systems, or related enterprise applications.
  • Knowledge of data quality processes, relational data concepts, and reporting tools.
  • Proficiency with SQL and Python is considered an asset.
  • Experience with ETL processes, business intelligence, and advanced Excel.
  • Understanding of pricing, valuation, and market data processes is an asset.
  • Experience managing data vendors and supporting vendor contracts, evaluations, and reconciliations.
  • Familiarity with master data management concepts and technologies.
  • Business analysis experience, including requirements gathering, process mapping, testing, and stakeholder management.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate work within tight deadlines.
  • Interest in emerging technologies, including AI and opportunities to apply automation to data and business processes.
