Senior Business Consultant

The Opportunity

The Senior Business Consultant is a composite role that combines the broad scope of responsibilities typically assigned to Systems Analyst, Systems Architect, Business Analyst, Applications Architect, Senior Database Administrator, Senior Developer, and Project Manager. The Senior Business Consultant handles technical and business analysis, leads client meetings, designs systems and architecture, develops applications, and manages project delivery. They apply project management methodologies to deliver solutions that meet business and enterprise goals. The Senior Business Consultant provides support for applications, manages database and system operations, and ensures ongoing maintenance and optimization.

Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, ITS, below are some key accountabilities:

  • Administration of SharePoint Online/SharePoint 2016, including configuring sites, managing user permissions, managing organization sharing, overseeing site collections, developing documentation, training end-users and troubleshooting issues.
  • Hands-on support of client-server applications in an enterprise environment, including managing and implementing enhancements and upgrades. Supported applications include SaaS, custom-built web and third-party client-server.
  • Writing SQL queries, developing stored procedures and creating SQL reports.
  • Report development using SSRS, PowerBI and other reporting tools.
  • Preparing for, performing and supporting data conversion and data migration.
  • Gather requirements and build custom reports, data extracts and interfaces to support custom reporting.
  • Support users on systems and applications developing end-user documentation as appropriate.
  • Develop, maintain and troubleshoot integrations between Microsoft 365 and both cloud and on-premises applications.
  • Design, build, document, and maintain interfaces between various applications and databases.
  • Respond to, diagnose, and resolve database, application, system and reporting issues.
  • Develop excellent working relationships at all organizational levels, with vendors, and internal and external contractors.
  • Take part in the after-hours and on-call support as needed, within the IT/S team and with external partners.
  • Assess physical and technical security risks to data, software and hardware.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
  • A university degree in computer science, information systems, or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience with business and systems analysis, design, and development methodologies.
  • Must have a strong technical background to be able to translate business requirements into a functional technical implementation.
  • Application development experience is required.
  • Strong technical knowledge and proficiency in a variety of systems and technologies including Microsoft SQL, .NET, SQL SSRS, CSS, REST, SOAP, XML.
  • Experience with SharePoint Online, Azure, Office 365, Microsoft Graph, Power BI, is an asset.
  • Experience using project management best practices and working within a structured PM environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate specifications for and to perform coding, testing and debugging of computer programs, interfaces and reports.
  • Excellent communication skills along with a proven ability to collaborate and work well within a team environment.
Employment Terms and Benefits
  • In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized,salariedsupport staff position, subject to a6 monthprobation period.
  • The annual salary for this position is between $69,201.60 to $72,654.40 depending on experience, based on working 40 hours per week.
