Sr. Building Science Technologist

Building Science and Sustainability

Richmond, BC

Today is the day to boost your career! Pinchin is seeking a Senior Building Science Technologist to join our Building Science and Sustainability team in our Richmond Office.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Senior Building Science Technologist will conduct on-site inspections, assessments, and reporting services for a wide range of building science core services, including Building Envelope Condition Assessments (BECA), Roof Condition Assessments (RCA), building envelope design for existing buildings, concrete/masonry rehabilitation, Property Condition Assessments (PCA), capital planning, asset management, and related services.

A Day in the Life of a Sr. Building Science Technologist at Pinchin:

  1. Conduct investigations and assessments (PCA, BECA, RCA) to determine the condition of various building elements, and prepare technical reports summarizing findings, data analysis, and recommendations.
  2. Perform invasive building inspections and testing, such as roof cut tests, exploratory openings, and water/leak tests.
  3. Carry out quantity take-offs, measurements, and estimations.
  4. Develop designs and specifications for restoration projects.
  5. Conduct construction reviews to ensure quality standards and design requirements are met.
  6. Perform PCAs and capital planning following ASTM standards and best practices.
  7. Create detailed AutoCAD drawings.
  8. Coordinate financial aspects of projects.
  9. Maintain QA/QC protocols, health and safety standards, and quality control within the team.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Pinchin Team:

  • College Diploma in Building Science, Architectural Technology/Science, Construction Technology, or Civil Engineering Technology; a Bachelor of Science or Applied Science is preferred.
  • Being an EIT is an asset.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Project Technologist in the Canadian Building Science industry, with proficiency in BECAs, RCAs, and PCAs.
  • Familiarity with building envelope assemblies and systems such as HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety.
  • Ability to assist project managers and engineers with field reviews and report development.
  • Experience with PCAs in accordance with ASTM E2018-15 standards is an asset.
  • Proficiency in preparing technical specifications and drawings.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication skills and technical vocabulary command.
  • Ability to safely transport and handle tools and PPE, including a 20-foot ladder.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and personal vehicle (travel expenses reimbursed).
  • Willingness to travel as required.
