Qualifications

  • Minimum de 4 ans d'expérience en tant qu'Inspecteur de bâtiment.

About the Opportunity

The City of Penticton is looking for afull-time Senior Building Inspector (Level II or III),based inPenticton, B.C.

This position reports to the Building Department Manager and is responsible for managing complex development files from application through to occupancy, while providing expert guidance on building code, permitting processes, and compliance.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing building permit applications, drawings, and documentation for compliance with applicable codes, acts, and bylaws
  • Inspecting buildings and structures at various construction stages to ensure code compliance
  • Evaluating reports and recommendations from designers or registered professionals
  • Determining compliance of existing buildings undergoing alterations, additions, or changes in use
  • Coordinating permit applications through various City departments
  • Advising and supporting contractors, homeowners, developers, and other stakeholders with technical guidance and building code interpretation
  • Assisting with enforcement matters and building repairs related to fire, flood, or damage
  • Managing complex development and change-of-use files
  • Leading discussions and decisions on alternate solutions requiring sound judgment and code expertise
  • Mentoring junior inspection and permitting staff
  • Championing fair, consistent service delivery and modern permitting systems
  • Contributing to a supportive, collegial team environment that values continuous improvement and community impact
AboutYou

To qualify, you will need aLevel III Building Official Certification, or Level II with eligibility and intent to certify as Level III.A minimum of4years of experience as a Building Official, with specific involvement in plan review and monitoring of complex projects, and avalid B.C. Class 5 driver's licensewill also be essential.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Training or certification in mechanical systems, fire alarms, or fire suppression systems
  • Familiarity with bylaw enforcement or municipal regulatory frameworks
  • Experience with project management or leadership in construction or permitting
  • Proficiency with software tools including Microsoft Office, GIS, and permit management systems
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, code requirements, and complex construction issues
