Job summary

Cenovus Energy in Calgary is seeking a Senior Analyst, Budgets & Forecast to support the delivery of forecasts, annual budget, and executive reporting. You will consolidate monthly forecasts, perform variance analyses, and translate financial data into insights for senior leaders in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

You will work with SAP/BPC, PlanningSpace, and Power BI to enhance models, drive cross-functional initiatives, and support acquisitions or corporate planning activities.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, CPA or CFA designation.
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in business analysis, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, or management and performance reporting.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Consolidate, analyze, and report Cenovus monthly forecasts and annual budget for executive and Board reporting.
  • Complete detailed financial variance analysis to assess impacts of forecast and budget assumptions.
  • Prepare and communicate operational and financial insights to support timely and effective decision-making.
  • Prepare monthly corporate performance scorecard updates for the executive team.
  • Represent Budgets & Forecast on cross-functional initiatives to support process improvements and data-driven solutions.
  • Interpret and develop forward-looking accounting and planning processes to ensure alignment with historical results.
  • Maintain and enhance consolidation models used for scenario analysis and working capital planning.
  • Support acquisitions, divestitures, and other corporate initiatives by assessing budget and planning implications.

About this opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Budgets & Forecast, the Senior Analyst, Budgets & Forecast supports the delivery of the Company's forecasts, annual budget, corporate performance scorecard, and executive reporting. This role provides exposure to operational and financial planning data across Cenovus's portfolio and opportunities to collaborate with stakeholders across Corporate Planning and partner groups. The successful candidate will be a highly organized and analytical professional with strong systems and data capabilities. They will be able to translate complex financial information into clear insights for senior leaders and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with competing priorities and deadlines.

What you’ll do

Who you are
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, along with a CPA or CFA designation.
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in business analysis, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, or management and performance reporting.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Self-motivated professional with a positive attitude and demonstrated ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Proven ability to engage and influence cross-functional teams, including senior leaders.
  • Experience with SAP/BPC, PlanningSpace, WDesk, Power BI, or similar applications is considered an asset.
