Job description

Senior Bridge Engineer, for COWI in North America

Do you want to join one of the leading engineering consulting companies, creating value for customers, people, and societies worldwide? Do you have experience leading bridge design projects from initial concept to implementation? And are you interested in joining a cohesive team with aspiring goals? Then, this could be the next adventure in your career.

Create Solutions that will enable a better tomorrow
We are looking for a Senior Bridge Engineer to join our growing team in Vancouver! You will work closely with a team of experts working alongside our customers on some of North America's most significant infrastructure projects. And we are thrilled to have contributed to local projects like the Golden Ears, Alex Fraser, and the Lions’ Gate Bridges.

You will plan and develop engineering projects, such as inspections, evaluations, rehabilitations, and designs of bridge structures. In addition, you will be responsible for defining the scope and selection of problems for investigation, developing concepts and approaches, and making key technical decisions. You will not only be given opportunities to grow your level of responsibility but also your skills.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Supervise and coordinate teams of engineers and technicians, including reviewing the work produced and mentoring junior staff toward their professional development
  • Perform structural analysis, design, and evaluation and be responsible for the preparation of calculations, drawings, work plans, schedules, and budgets
  • Prepare standard documents, such as technical specifications, under applicable design codes along with engineering reports and other technical documents
  • Research and review design options for both technical and financial impact
  • Liaise with other professionals, clients, and third parties as needed

Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future
The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.

On top of that, you will:

  • Hold a Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a minimum of 8 years of related industry experience in Bridge Design and Project Management, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Be a registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia, or can obtain within 12 months of employment
  • Have great technical expertise with 3D structural modelling with analysis software, demonstrated experience developing tasks in bridge design and construction, and working knowledge of modern bridge design codes
  • Be familiar with the use of structural design codes (ie. CHBDC), drafting software (ie. AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu), and structural analysis software programs (ie. SoFistik, CSiBridge) (preferred)
  • Have prior experience guiding structural design teams either as a technical or discipline lead and consistently deliver on time and within budgets
  • Have been Engineer of Record on BCMOTI (or Ministry-like) projects (considered an asset)
