Join Cumberland Council as a Senior Bridge Engineer. Lead bridge designs, assessments, maintenance projects, and bridge replacement schemes. Manage a small team, act as the team's representative for the Safety Advisory Group (SAG), and ensure compliance with standards. You'll act as the professional project lead, providing technical design and project advice, and serve as the Technical Approval Authority. Supervise, coordinate, and support the bridge team. Conduct surveys, design, and manage project progress. Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks, council policies, and industry best practices.
The role will require occasional weekend/out-of-hours work to accommodate reactive inspections during or following significant flood events, and as the team's representative with the Safety Advisory Group to ensure the Council fulfills its duties under relevant safety acts.
We seek a professional with a relevant degree and Chartered Engineer status with the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) or Institute of Structural Engineers (ISTRUCTE), or MEng (Masters of Engineering) degree or equivalent, along with extensive a minimum of 10 years postgraduate experience in bridge design. Strong communication skills and knowledge of national standards and Eurocodes are essential. Additional experience in stadiums and building design/construction would be advantageous.
