The Bridges and Civil Offshore Structures (BCOS) team undertakes challenging engineering projects for major bridge and transit projects across Canada. Our work includes roles such as Technical Advisor for Metrolinx on the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension and GO Rail Expansion, designing the Keating Channel footbridge for Waterfront Toronto, advising on the replacement of the Alexandra Bridge in Ottawa, and the Ile d'Orléans Bridge near Quebec City.

The Senior Bridge Engineer will work from our Toronto Office in a hybrid setting. You will be involved in the planning, design, procurement, and construction phases of the 9.2 km Eglinton Crosstown West Extension light rail project, which includes underground stations, tunnels, elevated guideways, and other structures. We seek an experienced engineer in railway, highway, and pedestrian bridge design to support our client, Metrolinx, across various project stages.

The opportunity

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective that encourages individuality. We value diverse experiences, perspectives, and ideas, and you will have the chance to do meaningful work that benefits communities and your career.

  • Develop concept, preliminary, and detailed designs for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other civil structures, mainly railway-related.
  • Review calculations and designs by engineers and EITs.
  • Conduct quality control activities for structural design reviews.
  • Coordinate and supervise CAD drawing production.
  • Lead the preparation of construction specifications and tender documents.
  • Manage smaller projects and clients, ensuring timely, budget-conscious, high-quality delivery.
  • Participate in client meetings to present work, review issues, and oversee project coordination.
  • Contribute to proposal development for bridge design projects as needed.

Is this role right for you?

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario (P. Eng.).
  • At least 8 years of experience in infrastructure/bridge projects, preferably in Ontario.
  • Knowledge of CSA S6, AREMA, and Metrolinx Guidelines.
  • Experience designing sophisticated rail bridges and rehabilitating existing structures.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software like MIDAS; experience with Rhino and Grasshopper is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills for reports, presentations, and client interactions.
