The Bridges and Civil Offshore Structures (BCOS) team undertakes exciting engineering projects for major bridge and transit initiatives across Canada. Our key projects include serving as the Technical Advisor to Metrolinx for the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension and GO Rail Expansion - On Corridor Works (OnCorr), designing the Keating Channel footbridge for Waterfront Toronto, advising Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) on the replacement of the Alexandra Bridge in Ottawa, and supporting the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (MTMD) in replacing the 2km Ile d'Orléans Bridge near Quebec City with a 430m cable-stayed span.

The Senior Bridge Engineer will be based in our Toronto office, working in a hybrid environment. This role involves engaging in the planning, design, procurement, and construction phases of the 9.2km Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE) light rail project, which includes underground and elevated stations, tunnels, 1.4km of elevated guideway, and other civil structures. We seek an experienced professional in railway, highway, and pedestrian bridge design to support our client, Metrolinx, across various project stages.

  • Develop concept, preliminary, and detailed designs for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other civil structures, mainly railway-related.
  • Oversee and review calculations and designs by engineers and EITs.
  • Conduct quality control activities for independent review of structural designs.
  • Coordinate and direct CAD production for drawings.
  • Lead the preparation of construction specifications and tender documents.
  • Manage smaller projects and clients to ensure timely, on-budget delivery of high-quality results.
  • Participate in client meetings to present work, review design issues, and oversee project coordination.
  • Contribute to proposal development for bridge design projects as needed.

Is this role right for you?

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Professional Engineer license in Ontario (P. Eng.).
  • At least 8 years of experience in infrastructure and bridge projects, preferably in Ontario.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as CSA S6, AREMA, and Metrolinx Guidelines.
  • Experience designing sophisticated rail bridges and civil structures, including rehabilitation and current technologies.
  • Ability to analyze and design complex bridges.
  • Proficiency in preparing engineering reports, condition assessments, design briefs, and technical proposals.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with structural design software like MIDAS; experience with Rhino and Grasshopper is a plus.

The Toronto hiring range for this role is $110,000 to $120,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications. Benefits are additional. Ranges outside Toronto may differ.
