Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada seeks a Senior Baggage Handling System (BHS) Engineer for its Western Region, based in the project office in Toronto, and requiring in-office work Monday through Friday. You will act as the Client's Representative on large-scale airports projects, leading design, construction, testing, and commissioning of BHS components.

The role demands extensive BHS experience at international airports, leadership of senior stakeholders, and strong knowledge of PLCs, SCADA and HMI

Qualifications

• Recognized degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or a related Engineering field.
• Typically, a minimum of 15 years of professional experience in a Baggage Handling Systems (BHS) engineering position at major international airports.
• At least 5 years of experience in a large capital program, including new-build projects or major terminal restoration/renovation projects.
• Experience in the specification, design, construction, and maintenance of BHS at major international airports.
• Experience in risk management and impact assessment involving planning and failure recovery of baggage handling systems to resolve operational issues.
• Demonstrable experience managing senior stakeholder relationships and providing strategic-level reporting to support decision-making.
• Strong expertise in the design, simulation, commissioning, and maintenance of baggage systems and related HMI and control room standards.
• Thorough working knowledge of system safety requirements, applicable codes, and regulations.
• Expert knowledge of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering principles, theories, practices, technical standards, and safe operating practices, including PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems.

Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Baggage Handling System (BHS) Engineer for its Western Region. In this role, you will act as the Client's Representative in the execution of large-scale infrastructure projects.

This position is based at the project office in the west end of Toronto, Ontario, and requires the successful candidate to work in the office Monday through Friday.

Your role

• Provide advice, guidance, and subject matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and delivery of the program as it relates to Baggage Handling System (BHS) design, construction, testing, and commissioning, including compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
• Ensure that BHS design and construction comply with technical requirements through design reviews, submittal reviews, and testing.
• Assess alternative technical proposals submitted by contractors and provide feedback regarding feasibility.
• Coordinate the technical elements of the program related to BHS engineering, including establishing program targets and goals.
• Establish governance, processes, and procedures required to manage interfaces between the client and contractor(s).
• Work collaboratively with the program team to schedule and undertake design reviews in line with program requirements.
• Coordinate interfaces between engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure integration and coordination across programs, facilities, and assets.
• Review deliverables submitted by contractors/designers and confirm compliance with applicable requirements, codes, and standards.
• Monitor designer input throughout the construction phase, including RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock-up approvals, punch lists, and related activities.
• Provide management-level progress reports and briefings regarding BHS design progress, issues, and opportunities.
• Coach, mentor, and support career development initiatives.

About you

• Demonstrable experience managing senior stakeholder relationships and providing strategic-level reporting to support decision-making.
• Strong expertise in the design, simulation, commissioning, and maintenance of baggage systems and related HMI and control room standards.
• Thorough working knowledge of system safety requirements, applicable codes, and regulations.

Expected compensation for this role is between $ 117,200 and $ 161,200 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, location, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
