Job summary

RBC in Toronto is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to help shape the platform's backend. You will build scalable NestJS/TypeScript services that power thousands of users and collaborate with product and design to translate concepts into production-ready code.

You will champion quality, drive CI/CD with GitHub Actions, and enhance observability with Dynatrace while owning complex deliverables end-to-end in a dynamic, high-performing team.

Qualifications

• Proven TypeScript and NestJS expertise.
• Strong PostgreSQL & TypeORM experience.
• Experience with Jest and Vitest testing.
• Ownership of complex scalable systems.
• Maintainability, testability, performance focus.
• Senior‑level architectural judgment.
• Payments or financial services domain knowledge.
• Incident response, SLA management, observability tools.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services using NestJS and TypeScript, architecting scalable APIs.
• Design, build, and maintain reusable component libraries and modules that scale across backend applications.
• Contribute to architecture discussions, performance optimization, and system design.
• Help define and champion development best practices, leading by example and elevating team excellence.
• Own complex deliverables across the complete development lifecycle, from concept to production.
• Collaborate with the team on database design, API contracts, and technical implementation details.
• Contribute to DevOps and infrastructure improvements, optimizing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), deployment processes, and monitoring (Dynatrace) to enable faster, more reliable releases.
• Own operational excellence, ensure SLAs are met or exceeded, assist with incident response, and continuously improve our operational posture.
