Job summary
Munich Re Group in Toronto is seeking a Senior/Staff Software Engineer with deep Python expertise to build scalable APIs and services powering data-driven life insurance solutions. You will work on mission-critical systems handling AI, EHRs, and sensitive medical data to enable faster, easier access to essential coverage.
You will shape API architecture for real-time decisioning, collaborate with data scientists, underwriters, product managers, and customer success, and optimize backend
Qualifications
- Backend software development experience with Python.
- Experience with API design using Swagger/OpenAPI and FastAPI.
- Experience with cloud platforms and container orchestration (K8s).
- Experience with relational databases and ORMs (PostgreSQL/MySQL, SQLAlchemy).
- Experience with load testing and backend performance optimization.
Responsibilities
- Shape API architecture for real-time decisioning using medical data.
- Collaborate with data scientists, underwriters, customer success and product managers to deliver the roadmap.
- Optimize backend performance and scalability for large health data volumes.
- Adapt the product as ML and LLM usage evolves.
- Build maintainable software, write unit and integration tests, and automate testing.
- Participate in code reviews and advance development practices.
